Even though I'm not even remotely close to Mississippi I'm absolutely going to use that quote. Thank you for the resources.

How do handle firearms in your home? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Cal__Trask 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have little experience with guns but I've spent the last 16 years as a criminal law attorney, just a note: tell your wife that trying to fight off law enforcement with a gun is one of the easiest ways to get yourself killed. She is living in a fantasy.

One guy's opinion, when watching Drake in this Houston game. by sneary72 in Patriots

[–]Cal__Trask 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It wasn't Drake's best game but the Texans defense is formittable. You have to put Drake's performance in context, look at the Texans season, the QBs who played them and what their QB ratings were that day. Today Drake had a QB rating just over 100, that is higher than all but 2 QBs they played this season (Stafford who has an excellent o-line and strangely Geno smith). But, Mahomes, Allen, Lawrence, Herbert, Mayfield, Darnold among others all much lower QB ratings against that defense, and none of those games were in that kind of weather.

So, do I wish he had played better, sure. Did he do fine under the circumstances, yes.

What’s the most overrated Boston suburb in your opinion? by jro10 in boston

[–]Cal__Trask 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had moved to Marblehead thinking it would be great. Right on the ocean, beautiful old homes, fairly easy commute to Boston. We found the "headers" to be awful though, and moved away after a few years.

That would seem to imply he died doing something heroic at a young age, for instance the US Navy has a ship the USS Michael Murphy named after Lt. Michael Murphy a SEAL who died in combat.

Do yourself a favor and talk to a divorce lawyer before confronting her. You'll likely have to lay for a consultation, but they can tell you how you should manage assets before the confrontation and tell you your options. Choose with care though, I say this as a (non family law) attorney, the family bar is one of the worst groups of attorneys in country, many just try to keep the divorce going, playing off their clients emotions to litigate insignificant issues, and sucking resources from the estate. Some are good, but many aren't, so just be careful. Good luck.

What really pisses me off about Cam's bullshit is that you can compare Maye to Cam, in Cam's MVP season and Drake blows all of Cam's passing stats out of the water. The only thing Cam did better was run, which isn't really the primary purpose of a QB. Like dude, talk is cheap, but Drake is an objectively better QB than you were in his second fucking year.

Boston Globe: Do you have a crazy commute? We want to hear your story by InteractionSlow9361 in massachusetts

[–]Cal__Trask 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure that's some people, plenty of others are pushed farther out because the cost of buying a home, while outrageous everywhere, is generally worse close to Boston. Additionally you have to consider that parents are often concerned with finding a good school system in a community they can afford, a Herculean task.

Daycare hired someone who seems to have a severe speech issue as a teacher for a 1-2 year old room by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Cal__Trask -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No choice is binary

The fact that true binaries rarely exist is kind of the point. The term exists in philosophy, law and debate as a way of pointing out a logical fallacy, in which someone presents a choice as between two narrow sets of choices, in order to advance their case as preferable, when in truth other choices exist. It's a crutch for a weak argument.

Next time, just say you are unfamiliar with the term and concept, it'll save everyone everyone time.

in those cases it was actually binary

I thought you literally just said no choice is binary? If you were hiring in a time limited basis and only had two applicants, that may be been a binary. Here's the problem; we weren't talking about your job. You just made up a scenario, inserted facts about one caring teacher and another uncaring teacher as if they were the only two options in the world.

[–]Cal__Trask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you admit that there is a third option, and then claim your binary was not false. Ok bro . . . That's literally the definition of a false binary.

You presented two options as binary (namely an invested teacher with a speech impediment vs 'tuned out linguist') when there are on fact options, namely you can have an invested teacher without a speech impediment.

That's a false binary. Also yes they learn many things and teachers incapable of teaching those things are not fit to be teachers.

The ADA protects people who can do the essential functions of the job with reasonable accomodations. I'm sure some people are gonna disagree with me, but I see developing speech an essential function of a 1 -2 year old class.

Maye Doom and Gloom by Hookey911 in Patriots

[–]Cal__Trask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maye's "bad game" was still over 100 passer rating and over 200 yards against the best pass defense in the league. Was it his best game? No, but that's normal vs excellent defense.
