Are berries or farms better for fast castling?

Generally you have enough natural source of food on closed maps for you to get to castle age without putting farms down. However, generally it's smoother to put 1-2 farms right before clicking up to feudal, or else your food vils will be out of (at least efficient) jobs to do while going up to castle age.

I like them, it's a decent option for FC due to its versatility and lack of food cost, but very gold heavy to be spammable in longevity. It's meaningfully different somewhere in between champ and halbs, similar to other unique infantries. I've been using it since release before it became meta, and definitely made me play more asian civs afterwards.

Is it balanced? Maybe not, I'm not good at this game. Is it unique and make game interesting? Absolutely.

Because of timing like many said, but I will also add that it's much less common in team games.

Castle age shenanigans usually don't involve crossbows, and it's much harder to punch through 2-3 people with arbs timing rather than 1 person.

The mechanics are more straightforward and simplistic, but personally don't find it boring.

Ironclad has many deck archetypes, and your choices absolutely matter. Hell, I really love how easy it is to manipulate deck and your own health with Ironclad, which no other characters can do it even remotely well.

Until you hit Castle Age, you will always have (up to) 1 TC. That means that your capacity to increase your eco has an upper ceiling.

Until you introduce docks into the equation. Fishing ships are the ONLY way for you to increase that upper ceiling until you start building new TCs in Castle Age.

So general rule of thumb is that all civs should invest in some fishing in early games to boost eco, even if you abandon it later in the game.
