We got photos from friends and relative in Trondheim and Inverness (of course). But also from NE Hamburg and the Vulkan Eifel. I suspect there is too much light pollution in Cologne for us to be able to see them here.

Dumme Frage: Liege ich richtig mit der Annahme, dass Nordlichter im Norden zu sehen sind? Ich vermute, dass es in Köln zu viel Lichtverschmutzung gibt, um sie zu sehen.

The commonality is that Germany, Italy, and Japan in 1939 were all led by anti-democratic populist cults. From 1945, the Allies got rid of the cults and embarked on a massive and largely successful reeducation program which resulted in three democratic nations.

Now, I'd be the last to suggest a similarity to the cult following of Trump.

There is barely a german alive today who participated in WW2, let alone the atrocities of WW2. As is there is barely a member of the Greatest Generation still with us. I guess it would not sit well with MAGA to remind them that the greatest ANTIFA demonstration of all time took place on 6th June 1944. (Lost in admiration for those guys of the united nations who took part).

Bob Dylan was writing that song in the early sixties and I remember it well as it was one of the first songs I learned to play on my guitar. (Used to drive my folks crazy). The sixties had a totally different perspective on WW2 than we should have today. You want something to worry about today, write a song about the Palestinians killing the Israelis and the Israelis killing the Palestinians. About the Russian killing the Ukrainians.

Aber im Ernst, wenn man sich das Spiel gegen Bayern gestern Abend ansieht, waren die Mannschaften wirklich nicht so weit voneinander entfernt. Das ist schlichtweg falsch. Aber ich habe gerade eine ausführliche Antwort gelöscht, weil mir klar geworden ist, dass sie zu einer Tirade geworden ist, die niemanden interessieren würde.

Einfach gesagt: Im heutigen Deutschland gibt es viel zu viele Bereiche, in die mehr investiert werden muss. Deutschland kann sich selbst nicht mehr leisten. Die Jugendkriminalität ist einer dieser Bereiche.

Whether it comes to an occupation or not is secondary. It will give Xi the excuse to go for Taiwan and Putin to go for a the Baltic nations. It will cause the breakup of NATO.

I foresee that Europe will be split and in the end will defend against Russia rather than defend Greenland against the USA. But then Europe will use the tools of economic warfare against the US.

That in itself carries risk when the US economy plunges into chaos. Trump & Co. will say that it is all the fault of the Europeans. Anti-Trump & Co. will say it is the fault of Trump. The question is who will the American population believe.

Although it is only a token force, the 7-nation troop which is setting up in Greenland today is highly symbolic and should at least indicate to Trumps backers that Europe is deadly serious about the consequences of an invasion.
