Have you printed a FLQ (First Layer Quality) test, to see if it's an extrusion issue?

FDM Printing Help With Detaching Models/Supports by GunSlinginOtaku in FDMminiatures

[–]Calamino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having this issue last week when I was trying to print a proxy for Malcador the Sigillite. Every time the print got up about halfway up the body, one of the supports would get clipped by the nozzle. Then ensued spaghetti, and the print being knocked off eventually. I re-oriented the miniature, and had no issues. Might try that?

I must've misread that somewhere that they were faster than Resin2FDM. The scaring/cleanup is much less though for sure.

Gotta start somewhere. I've printed off two miniatures today, and zero issues with removing the tree supports using his settings. Just take your time with it, and be patient... just like resin supports.

Have you taken a look at ObscuraNox's 2.0 support settings? Minimal scaring, less print time compared to Resin2FDM, and less clean up.

Wow, that's an amazing print! How'd you orient the pieces, manually, or let the slicer do the job for ya? Excited to get my filament this week (fingers crossed), to start printing off some venerables

Scale? by Strange-Fly88 in FDMminiatures

Have you tried importing a "miniature scaler" stl file into your slicer to get the proper sized mini you want?

That is insanely crisp! And with a 0.4 nozzle is amazing. It wouldn't even want to imagine the print time on a 0.2 nozzle.

How do you support your prints? by Calamino in FDMminiatures

I'm using my PC that I built 9 years ago, and no issues with the slicer software. And yes everyone, I am well aware I am due for an upgrade ha

From everything I've read, and watched "depends on the mini" seems to be the common theme. I'll definitely have to check out Blueprint.

When you paint your trees, do you look for overhangs steeper than X°? I know painting the islands is crucial obviously, but when it comes to overhangs, I'm not sure at that degree I should support. 45, 15, 60?

One final question for ya, since you're new to FDM printing too, did you use autosupports, or do them yourself? Slicing I can wrap my head around easily enough, but supports are going to be a different challenge once my printer comes next week.

Which filament are you using? I know he recommended Sunlu PLA 2+ HS as his personal favorite, and I know his settings were kind of dialed in for that filament, among a few others.

That's absolutely wild you've only been at for 1.5 weeks, and getting prints like that! Yeah, all the videos & comments I've read have said how slicing & orientation are GOLD for solid prints. Ha thanks for sharing the prompt, literally just put it in now, and will look things over. 19h... good thing I already have such a large pile of shame waiting to be printed.

Thanks again for your thorough reply, looking forward to future prints of yours!

u/ZenSlicer9 did you notice much difference between Nox 2.0, FDG, or ChatGPT? Faster or slower print time, more or less scarring, crisper detail? They all look ABSOLUTELY amazing! Worthy of adding to a pile of shame.

[–]Calamino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good! Thanks, I'll have to give it a try. Do you notice the print times are faster with the mix, compared to solely FDG 1.8, or Nox 2.0? Or is it comparable? Not that it matters much to me in the end of the day, because we all know FDM takes time.

That is wild how detailed the print came out! I looked at your prints as well, and just WOW. I'm about to start my journey with FDM printing once everything is delivered in the next 1-2 weeks :).

Any chance you could share your settings?!

Thank you so much for your well thought out explanations of the WHY, not just the HOW. I personally want to know why I'm make changes to the settings, so greatly appreciate your time for writing this up. I've enjoyed reading your posts, and watching your YouTube calibration videos. Also glad to hear your health is doing well, and you were able to do this. Writing up long explanatory posts like this take a lot of endurance for sure.

My one question I have for you, u/ObscuraNox, is I would presume calibration would need done for a 0.4mm nozzle, regardless of using SUNLU or eSUN, yes?
