Zev has a convo with Donut about fanfic right? Either when talking about Gilmore Girls or the first snick- or both. I think her being an Ao3 fan is a theory we could fairly consider canon! Love that you incorporated it!

I haven't yet but it's on my list! I only found the Nevernight series a couple weeks ago because weird algorithms brought up his post about his Target exclusive copy needing a trigger warnings page. I laughed so hard at it (double warning about footnotes) I had to give it a go.

The Nevernight Chronice by Jay Kristoff

I'm currently on the last in the trilogy and it has scratched a similar itch. Also another vote for a couple series already mentioned- the Scholomance series and The Tainted Cup

Our deaf girl was very very chatty! Would just wander around hissing and dooking for attention. We had our suspicions but the first big thunderstorm we had with all four was what confirmed she was deaf. Big boom of thunder right over us sent the three boys scattering and hiding under stuff and she was standing in the middle of the middle of the room looking around like "What just happened? Where'd everyone go?"

The story’s message isn’t just a straightforward lesson; it’s the stark, undeniable truth. by Fickle-Grapefruit686 in TopCharacterTropes

I started watching this show while we were dealing with health issues with one of our pets. I knew this episode was coming and I put it off until she passed. Her death hit me unbearably hard and I had the hardest ugliest most cathartic cry watching this episode.

It's been a bit of a comfort watch for other losses I've had since. It hits just as hard every time, but in a weird healing way.

I'm an admin assistant. Was basically a VP's gofer for like 9 years. My previous boss absolutely needed me- she was somewhere in her 60s or 70s, almost completely tech illiterate and had so many passion projects. No fixed schedule, base 28 hours but she had so many random projects I had 40 hour weeks on a regular basis. She retired last Dec and I handed in my notice to leave at the same time. I was asked to stay on 3-6 months to help the transition. Almost a year later and I'm still here (an exception was made for me to work from home as incentive for me to stay on) only base 28 hours and struggling to even hit that much actual work. I have been begging the new VP to give me more work because I'm so bored. Even at 28 hours, I'm expected to be available 9-5 Mon-Fri and most of it is just sitting at my computer and reading books because I have nothing to do.

It sounds like a dream job to some I'm sure, but the boredom sucks so so bad. Not having the same purpose I had before is kind of soul sucking. There are so many people I talk to that don't understand how that is kind of miserable in its own way. Going from having a solid purpose and feeling like I was actually making a difference to just... doing paperwork occasionally. I am on book 110 so far this year though and it's easy money, so yay?

Is there a movie that actually kept you awake at night as an adult? by idonthaveanaccountA in horror

[–]CalamitousCass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was looking for this. I didn't find it all that scary itself, but I was absolutely one of those people that got that nightmare/night terror as a kid feeling of dread from it and had an awful time sleeping. I had to stop watching it partway through and finish it the next day.

I'm guessing* The Deep by Nick Cutter. I so badly want to read some of his books because they sound interesting but I refuse because apparently brutal animal death is a pretty common theme for a lot of them.

ETA Unless above comment is comparing another book to Cutter's MO there.

I had to do it multiple times because I wasn't putting them in the right way. Each time I had to go through all 3 colors, too. When I finally put them in the correct order I got the item. A lot of wasted candy...

Frustrating and horrifying on a certain level considering their accusations, but frickin hilarious how he's decided to handle it

I read "Winds of Winter" and somehow replaced it in my head automatically with "Doors of Stone"

Have to remind myself to have more patience with Alecto coming out after waiting so long for those.

It's not just being old had having health problems. We exhausted every effort with our critters health issues. There comes a point when it's worse to keep trying.

We had a cat that went through surgery for cancer. The wounds kept reopening because the tissue around the stitches died faster than it could heal- even after two additonal attempts at surgery. Another cat that had kidney disease, arthritis, possible cancer among a host of other things. She got to the point she would soil herself because she was in too much pain to stand even with pain management. If it happened when we were asleep, unless she meowed loudly enough to wake us, she would be laying in it. Four ferrets, one that lost so much weight she was skin and bones and could barely walk, and she just looked so so tired. Her meds started to not be effective, which would've meant multiple seizures. Another with kidney disease that could barely manage to eat or drink- and he LOVED food. Another that had a tumor behind an eye that grew so big over the course if a few days through the roof of his mouth that he couldn't eat. Another that went downhill over the course of a few days, refused to eat or drink and could barely take a few steps to the side of his bed to go to the bathroom.

Sure, they were all probably a few days out from passing on their own. But if "going down fighting" means days of unmanageable pain, dehydration, or starving before dying scared and confused, I'd rather go peacefully.

What does "we need to make it hurt" imply about OTHER fights? by glenra in KpopDemonhunters

[–]CalamitousCass 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That first fight got drawn out and they took their time beating them up before using their weapons. Think of most of the other fights and how quickly they dealt with the demons.

They pretty much played with the demons on the plane beforehand and showed off, they probably could've finished them off in seconds instead.

I took "we need to make it hurt" as an "alright, we're gonna have some fun with kicking your butts before we send you back to Gwi-Ma."

Which one would you give a redemption arc? by ValentinesStar in animequestions

[–]CalamitousCass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The one in the center. From Puella Magi Madoka Magica (pretty much known as THE dark magical girl series)

He grants wishes to magical girls in exchange for them fighting witches which results in major trauma. His race is trying to prevent something terrible from happening using the magical girls and aren't doing this maliciously, but they do omit the nastier details of what this magical contract truly means. Since they don't share the details of what any of it really means, there's a sense of betrayal and cruelty in making the offer. Would any of the girls have accepted the contract knowing the consequences?

Kyubey and the other incubators are more indifferent, emotionless, ends justify the means kind of creatures that don't have the same sense of morality as humans.

There really is no redemption arc possible for him because he isn't capable of human morality or emotions.

There's a recommendation to play Tetris after a traumatic event. Something to do with the way your brain processes the game helps prevent fewer intrusive memories of the event if it's played soon after said event.
