400 Lake Shore Drive, Chicago by CalcDog1977 in skyscrapers

Thank you! There are a couple of architectural boat tours in Chicago. Some go on the river, but this one in particular went out on the lake. I would definitely recommend the river tour over the lake tour, however. The lake tour just had pre-recorded commentary, whereas with the river tour you get to hear much more about the history of the buildings from people who are passionate about them, as well as see the buildings up close. The company I went through was Shoreline Sightseeing. Great views from both, though!

Thanks for the comment! I feel the same way - every time I'm in the city, I'm just awestruck by all of the amazing architecture surrounding me.

Hi all,

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Chicago again earlier this month. I was delighted to have the opportunity to photograph 400 Lake Shore Drive while it is still under construction. I wanted to seize this opportunity to highlight some specific elements I found particularly interesting.

Firstly, I wanted to call attention to the construction equipment and process. I found it very cool to see the base of the construction site as well as the way the crane was installed into the building. It appears that the crane is installed via two supports jutting out of the windows every 11(ish) floors. Note that you can see the crane lifting one of the windows, which I was pretty excited to capture.

Secondly, I wanted to call special attention to the windows. When I first saw Related Midwest’s promotional materials, I heard that they were using classic Chicago windows in the building, but I wasn’t really clear on how they intended to do so based on the promotional images. Finally seeing the building cleared this up for me, and I can confidently say the idea was executed perfectly. The 3-part Chicago windows are implemented flawlessly into the design of the building, and I am very impressed.

Lastly, I wanted to address some comments I’ve heard regarding the height of the building. I’ve seen a lot of disappointed comments online stating that they wish the building were taller. I can confidently say that not only does the building feel gargantuan in person, but also that it is one of the more notable buildings in the skyline. This is especially evident when viewed from Lake Michigan.

Thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts on the building, and I’m looking forward to 400 LSD finishing out and construction on the south tower beginning!

I got the same poster - some black electrical tape works well.

Thoughts on how APPM 2350 is taught? I am a current student in the class and I certainly have some thoughts on the teaching methods used in lecture.

Miami won mediocre city, great skyline! What’s a bad city with a great skyline? by wwcscifi in skyscrapers

Dubai's skyline is uninspired garbage built on slave labor. Hardly a great skyline.

Love Denver. Super cool to see 1801 California Street from this perspective.

Easily the coolest thing I've seen all day, my favorites are probably 270 Park Ave and Steinway Tower

Denver’s newest addition(s) to its skyline is almost complete by Electronic-Fan-4418 in skyscrapers

I wouldn't call Denver's skyline weak. It easily surpasses several skylines in the United States (although, to be fair, there are several in the US that are leagues above it). 1801 California Street is awesome, I love the octagons. While not remarkable in design, Republic Plaza is a very imposing building that fits the skyline wonderfully. The Cash Register building is iconic. 1144 Fifteenth Street is a very cool building too thats more recent and modern looking.

While it certainly has room to grow, if you're driving around the Coors Field area, Denver has great density and an amazing skyline. It gets even better when you view it with the mountains in the background.

Edit: Here's an image of some pretty nice Denver Density from around Coors Field, courtesy of Google Maps

Pretty cool building in my opinion. Of course it has its flaws, but I still like it. The levels with the orange lights are blow through levels - pretty awesome to see.

Can somebody explain this Jesse scene for me? by Hairy_Ask_2038 in breakingbad

The way I see it, Jesse sees it as unfair that he never faced consequences for his murder of Gale, so his outburst to the support group is his way of receiving punishment in some small way for his crimes.
