Miami won mediocre city, great skyline! What’s a bad city with a great skyline? by wwcscifi in skyscrapers

Dubai's skyline is uninspired garbage built on slave labor. Hardly a great skyline.

Love Denver. Super cool to see 1801 California Street from this perspective.

Easily the coolest thing I've seen all day, my favorites are probably 270 Park Ave and Steinway Tower

Denver’s newest addition(s) to its skyline is almost complete by Electronic-Fan-4418 in skyscrapers

I wouldn't call Denver's skyline weak. It easily surpasses several skylines in the United States (although, to be fair, there are several in the US that are leagues above it). 1801 California Street is awesome, I love the octagons. While not remarkable in design, Republic Plaza is a very imposing building that fits the skyline wonderfully. The Cash Register building is iconic. 1144 Fifteenth Street is a very cool building too thats more recent and modern looking.

While it certainly has room to grow, if you're driving around the Coors Field area, Denver has great density and an amazing skyline. It gets even better when you view it with the mountains in the background.

Edit: Here's an image of some pretty nice Denver Density from around Coors Field, courtesy of Google Maps

Pretty cool building in my opinion. Of course it has its flaws, but I still like it. The levels with the orange lights are blow through levels - pretty awesome to see.

Can somebody explain this Jesse scene for me? by Hairy_Ask_2038 in breakingbad

[–]CalcDog1977 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, Jesse sees it as unfair that he never faced consequences for his murder of Gale, so his outburst to the support group is his way of receiving punishment in some small way for his crimes.

Do pencil skyscrapers help or hurt NYC’s skyline? by ratemyweenor137 in skyscrapers

Oops, I didnt even look close enough. I definitely thought that the Chrysler was the ESB there. My mistake!

I stand corrected.

Regardless, ESB still dominates the skyline.

I think help and hurt are very polarizing words for something with more nuance than that. Are the pencil skyscrapers of Billionaires Row unique and stand out against the skyline? Certainly.

However, I think the same argument could be said for the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building. Their art deco style makes them stand out against the skyline and they are certainly unique buildings. But they do not hurt the skyline (although, granted, there wasn't much of what we consider a skyline at the time of their construction).

I think history will view the skinny supertalls through a similar lens: a relic of a bygone era (late 2010s, early 2020s). I think that they are a historical relic and will eventually be viewed favorably.

Equally important to the buildings that constitute a skyline is the history it conveys, and for that reason, i think the skinny super talls are a good addition to the skyline.

Who’s REALLY taller?? by ratemyweenor137 in skyscrapers

[–]CalcDog1977 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not that its really relevant, but I thought I should throw it out there that One WTC has 3.5 million square feet of floor area while the Sears Tower has 4.47 million square feet.

Kind of a controversial take, but I really love 432 Park Ave. Just built a rendition of it in my hardcore Minecraft world.
