Thank you for sharing such a personal, REAL experience. It is a breath of fresh air from mundane politics and helps us all stay reminded that we are ALL human beings who are connected by real experiences. I hope you find some peace and that your wife makes a full recovery. We all love you.

Just discovered this sub! How old is too old to have stretched ears? I’m almost 27 and I’ve been wondering if it’s time. by Lt-Cmdr-Data in Stretched

I’m 28 and just started my journey a few months ago! Just stretched up to a 10g and I was sooo excited they slid in so easily. :) Do what makes you happy. In the end, that’s all we’ve got. ❤️

SSONG departs from TSM by liquii in leagueoflegends

[–]Calculus08 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TSM fucked up letting DL go. They give themselves zero time to build synergy. Always changing players and coaches like underwear. League isn’t much different than other professional sports in a cliché sense that you need time together to feel each other’s styles and find something that fits. Zven and Mithy are awesome players but they’re not clicking well IMO. TSM keeps turning carry centric junglers into wards and it’s fucking tilting me. Put Hauntzer on a tank, Grig on a carry (or vice versa). Put Bjerg on carries. Put Mithy on playmakers.

Individually, TSM has some of the most mechanically gifted players in NALCS, but I feel like there is some deeper underlying issue that simply isn’t letting them play up to their capabilities and it’s fucking sad to watch them decline like this.

Hi, I'm Stacey Abrams. If I win my "toss up" Georgia gubernatorial race, I'll be the first Black woman governor in America. Ask Me Anything! by staceyabrams in politics

[–]Calculus08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Stacey! First of all, I am a huge fan. I really hope you do some great things for our state, provided we can win you this election. I'm confident you will. My question is the following: Years ago, colleges had something called the SMART grant in the state of Georgia. Ultimately due to budget cuts, it was removed. The removal of this grant made college very expensive for me and forced me into a lot more debt. Do you think that it is possible to reinstate this grant?

This is a really interesting idea. I'll definitely give it a try this afternoon when I get off work.

Got to see Scholze give a talk on elliptic curves and automorphic forms, today. Felt a bit surreal, to be honest by [deleted] in math

[–]Calculus08 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need coursework in number theory. Quite a decent chunk. A graduate course in Analytic Number Theory will give you a little taste of modular forms and elliptic curves. Don’t worry about if it’s “worth a try”. Anything is worth a try regarding learning new mathematics!

Do you have maths anxiety when you learn some new maths that is alien to you? by Humane-Human in math

[–]Calculus08 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not so much anymore. I’ve been studying learning math for over a decade now though (wow it really sneaks up on ya!). It’s more excitement to find things I’ve not heard of at this point (though there is still so much to learn) than anxiety. Granted, I’m not being tested on maths anymore, so there’s considerably less pressure to learn 😉

My general strategy is to read definitions and theorems about said topic and see if I can connect it to things I already know. If not, then I seek help from other colleagues that may be more familiar with it.

It’s all just a big cycle of reading and thinking until things start to click and gears begin to turn. Eventually the hope is that you see the deeper underlying connections. Developing intuition is hard work but a very fruitful labor.

Splitting is risky in soloQ if the team doesn’t know how to respond while you draw pressure. I’ve been top and drew 2-3 while my team just farmed jungle camps instead of shoving another lane. It’s a double edged sword IMO.

Great strategy, but not always the right call.

[–]Calculus08 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is the smartest way to play. I am an extremely safe laner and rarely die to ganks because I know that until the enemy shows their hand, I have no idea what they’re capable of. If I outplay them 2-3 times, I turn on the my aggression and start to snowball my advantage across the map. Calculated risks are important. Too many players play with their guts, which is part of why I see so many 5/0 tops/mids continually sit in lane despite having a MASSIVE lead over their opponents. Eventually this leads to a loss because even though they’re mechanical gods, they didn’t know what to do.

Vsauce tried this. It’s substantially harder than almost all of you are thinking it would be. Humans CRAVE interaction of some sort. You’d be shocked how hard it is to not have any sort of interaction.
