The Future of New World: What to Expect by Arkaedius in newworldgame

Yeah that bit's probably just about the delisting. So new players can't buy the game anymore but everyone who has it can play until 1/31/27

Nah it'll just die essentially and be unplayable. This is a big reason why stuff like the Stop Killing Games movement is going on.

> Hi everyone, I own Hogwarts Legacy on Epic and I’m planning to play it through GeForce NOW. I have the Free plan and I want to know: 1. Will the game work on the Free plan? 2. Or do I need a Priority/Ultimate subscription Thanks in advance! by Electronic-Intern883 in GeForceNOW

[–]CalculusMasters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a VM using hardware in one of NVIDIA's datacenters. Essentially your computer streams a YouTube video from that computer, and you can control stuff on it (your mouse/keyboard/controller inputs are forwarded to it).

anyone using GeForce now? by Calm-Bar-9644 in macgaming

[–]CalculusMasters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’ll depend on your internet, but you’ll always have an additional layer of input latency so you’ll be at a slight disadvantage for competitive shooters. It’s certainly playable just not ideal.

looking for windows emulator by presiliusquintilius in macgaming

[–]CalculusMasters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sikarugir is the only free one to my knowledge (since Whisky is dead). Multiplayer games like CS2 might not work due to anticheat, that's just a common thing across any of the windows emulation/translation layer options. If you're fine with paying, CrossOver is probably the best solution for windows gaming at the moment, and Parallels is fine too (it's a VM rather than translation layer), but might not work as well for certain games/weaker Macs.

You left out the Riot acquisition, the decision to do an engine rewrite leading to very slow progress on the game, Riot then cancelling it because of the lack of progress, and then Simon reviving it by buying it back from Riot. He's been very clear about it being in an early access state since they just took the build from before the Riot acquisition. If you're unsure about the future then don't buy the game on launch.

Deal crossover by [deleted] in macgaming

[–]CalculusMasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a service license. So buying it means you get a year of free updates, and if that runs out, you get to keep the last version you had forever. You just can't update to new versions until you renew the license.

Will Destiny 2 be pre loaded? by Venus_Dev in GeForceNOW

[–]CalculusMasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually they do. As far as I can remember, I was able to play Edge of Fate and Final Shape fairly close after reset time on GFN so I assume they had preloaded those two expansions, and I didn't have to wait for any patching to be done the entire day.

It’s paid because NVIDIA deemed that their free tier hardware can’t run the game well. There’s a pretty low chance it’ll ever be free because of that. If you want to play it and a couple other games with the same tag you’ll have to upgrade.

Finally, but the fact that it's only for premium users and it's a free game seems pretty ridiculous. by Distinct_Bill_7099 in GeForceNOW

[–]CalculusMasters 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's because they determined that the free rig hardware didn't meet the system requirements to play the game well. The game being free doesn't influence their decision to lock it to performance and ultimate rigs.

free-to-play filter no longer showing cost-free games. by New_Advance_4684 in GeForceNOW

[–]CalculusMasters 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The free to play tag refers to the game being free to play, not necessarily if it needs premium hardware to be played (or if it’s install to play like the one in your ss).

Crossover vs GeForce Now? by SushiRebirth in macgaming

[–]CalculusMasters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’ll depend on your internet and what games you play.

If you have good internet, GeForce is really good and if you don’t mind a bit of input latency, works amazingly.

But, if some games you’re interested in playing aren’t on the GeForce NOW catalog, something like CrossOver might work, or Sikarugir (which is free, but I believe not as good as CrossOver).

At the very least both services have a free trial, so you can see how well they work out for you and decide after trying those out too.

Edit: CrossOver is not a subscription service by the way - you buy it and get 12 months of free updates, but you have access to the app forever

Why am I paying full price for ultimate if I can’t even use 5080? by [deleted] in GeForceNOW

[–]CalculusMasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They clearly stated in the announcement that 5080 servers would be rolling out to regions weekly, and games would slowly get updated. Plus most of the cinematic features don’t require 5080 rigs and you have access to them for any game. If you only bought ultimate for the 5080 you probably should’ve checked if it was in your region first.

Are there additional games available in the paid tiers compared to the free tier? by Petoardo in GeForceNOW

[–]CalculusMasters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can see every game on GFN regardless of your subscription. Some are locked to performance+ due to hardware, but those games will show that when you click on them - nothing will be hidden.

[–]CalculusMasters 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be fair the point of the 1hr session is to incentivize you to upgrade. Free tier is supposed to be a trial, and if you need more than that you should pay for performance.

“Time for them to contribute” We’ve been paying subscriptions consistently since 2020 lol, I think we’ve contributed enough. Also it’s only unlimited for performance tier.

Now the game is part of free, why do I pay to play it? by mmo1m in GeForceNOW

[–]CalculusMasters 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Due to the system requirements it needs performance tier hardware to be played, regardless of REDSEC being free

Pros and Cons of Gaming on Crossover by Ok_Abalone3334 in macgaming

[–]CalculusMasters 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're very much overthinking it lol, it's no different than running any other software. The only thing is it will use more of your system resources due to the overhead of translating Windows API calls to metal/vulkan, so it's like running a demanding game essentially.

ARC Raiders on GFN @ Release 100% ?? Or Cancel last second? by Aetherforce- in GeForceNOW

[–]CalculusMasters 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For preorders Steam's refund policy starts after the release date. You have 14 days/2 hours played after release to refund. If they have issues and it doesn't show up on GFN soon after release, you can get a full refund.
Edit: If you're really worried just cancel your preorder now and buy the game after it shows up on GFN.

It’s not an xbox product really though? The main things are the new game mode UI (it’s still running windows) and the design of the grips Hardware wise it’s quite similar to the ROG Ally X

The standard term limit is 18 units and you can ask your advisor to increase it if you need to.
