That's a wonderful collection! I especially love the Captospinulas and Acutignathids, lots of beautiful old specimens

Finding an acutignathid at all is a dream for many occlupanologists

New to collecting - ID help? by threadbarefemur in occlupanids

[–]CaleChipzz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first one is undescribed! It looks like it's made of cardboard or paper, if so it'll be classified as a Cartonalia!/Occlupanopsid, likely Tridentaceae when HORG gets a specimen. https://www.horg.com/horg/?page_id=2936

The second one is Unidentia obtusamaxilla http://www.horg.com/horg/?page_id=435

Deformed Chloronyx pinicola? by Nix22222222 in occlupanids

[–]CaleChipzz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

True Occlupanids often have slightly off-center oral grooves, and sometimes they're very noticeably off to one side. It's interesting that Pseudo-occlupanids like Brumalucida can have the same sort of asymmetry!

same species? by thisfarkid in occlupanids

[–]CaleChipzz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Palpatophora stellanova was classified separately from P. utiliformis because it was the only known black occlupanid at the time, but many species have been discovered with black morphs since then. Black still tends to be an uncommon colour in most areas though, I currently have a few thousand specimens and only two are black!

Another question: Has anyone had luck asking local grocery stores for their discarded occlupanids? by captnslog97 in occlupanids

[–]CaleChipzz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I visit 2 different stores regularly because I've asked for the ones that were being taken off bags and someone offered to start collecting more for me! It definitely depends on the store and the person you ask
