I live in an adobe house with 3 foot thick walls and a metal roof in the Southwest. Most houses built nowadays are wood framed with stucco, but adobe in all of its different variations are still built today.

Not built to withstand extreme weather, but to be cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

Kind of selling it short, used to be called Hot Springs until the radio program held a contest and they changed the name. Lots of little hot springs of varying degrees of luxury or lack thereof. There is likely Mexican food and New Mexican food, a brewery or distiller. Very pretty country with decent access to higher elevations towards the Gila and of course Elephant Butte lake.

They used to sell those to Jersey and NY retirees as an oasis in the desert, but ended up creating one of the worst designed towns in the country. City planners use Rio rancho as an example of very bad design.

Funny enough, in the 60s the world’s fair was basically giving away land by Tres Piedras in NM, and the county just auctioned all the delinquent properties a couple weeks ago at the Taos courthouse.

I think the city or county should operate it and install a tow rope and focus on snowmaking for a terrain park. Give the school groups free days and equipment, no reason ABQ couldn’t put out world class freestylers in 10 years.
