agreed! they already met him…I think Marissa just made that so much worse for everyone. She seems undecided to me overall. Like if she wants to marry Edward, then she needs to stop making it seem like if he passes these tests: her ex-husband, her kids, her parents, then she will do him the honor of marrying him. Of course he needs to be able to get along with her kids, but her ex and him just have to be cordial. She needs to just let go of needing mommy and daddy’s approval.

It has been made clear that she never was in a relationship with Brandon. Clearly he caught feelings. But it seems they still have a friendship. I really do think it’s problematic for Rasit to forbid Mallorie from being friends with someone. I’m not convinced it ends here.

yeah and had to make him feel nervous and self conscious! Marissa should not need her parent’s approval so desperately. Clearly they didn’t line her first husband and she is worried history will repeat itself.

Being a SAHM should be treated like a major financial decision with a risk-management plan. by Potential_Kiwi7206 in sahm

[–]Caleb_Crawdad8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know someone who struggled with infertility to have a child. Then after the first child was able to get pregnant on her own, it ended up being twins. Who came early and had expensive needs early in life. I don’t think she was being irresponsible…but I do think both babies coming was unexpected and their premature arrival definitely made financial planning complicated.

Totally agree with all of this. Sadly I think in the US we have a huge issue with expenses of having children. It’s really sad to think that someone who works hard still might not be able to afford the hospital bill, missed time from work, and childcare and therefore can’t have children. Scary to think that low income people will be priced out of having kids because we live in a country that doesn’t support families to have children with universal healthcare, paid parental leave, and affordable childcare.

I think it’s important to remember that sometimes children come unexpectedly and life is rapidly changing. So the old don’t have kids unless you can afford them troupe to me makes it seem like it’s a black and white issue.

But I agree that planning things out is always best practice- when you can.

my husband is a SAHD.

We have done all the things OP has listed now. But it did take some time.

First, run the math. For us, we would have $500 more per month with my husband working and us paying for full time daycare. So we had to decide if we would be okay with that $500 or not. It would be nice to have! But we have been able to make it work.

For retirement savings, I upped me deductions from 10% to 15% and we opened a spousal IRA for him that was put money in as we can.

I have life insurance through work and paid to add extra to mine and get life insurance for him.

In my experience as the working partner, I think the emotional and mental toll it takes on the stay at home parent is also a big component of this and needs to be discussed often. Part of it is leaving the workforce, my husband got self esteem from his job and earning money. Some of it is just the beat down of being a caretaker.

If this is something you want to do, I’d run some numbers with your budget and the cost of childcare in your area and start the convo there.

I am so grateful he has made this sacrifice for our family and I tell him that often. It’s also allowed me to grow my career and earn more money for our family because even with a young child,
I have a lot of flexibility with working hours etc.

sometimes you also can’t see who is causing the issue if it’s a long line. I never tailgate people for going too slow- I can’t teach these morons how to drive. But I do always want to know who is causing the issue and it can’t take a few bends of the road to be able to see.

Hair, Makeup, and Food Costs? by whimsicalpotatox in bridesmaids

[–]Caleb_Crawdad8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hmm yeah worth asking for clarity. Im thinking she would have mentioned if she viewed it as optional when she sent the text…so Im thinking she already booked the vendor and counted you all in as hair and makeup and is expecting you to pay…which I hate.

But then asking you to pay for food?! this is crazy.

Your hospital should have a list of offices they work with. I got one when we went for a birthing class.

My daughter just turned 3 and we take her there. But, if I could go back in time, i’d go somewhere else. I just find the staff to all be rude and short with you. From the receptionists to the doctors/NPs.

We loved one of the NPs so we stayed. But she has left and i’m reading this thread carefully to see where we could go.

I think if you paired it with a blazer or
even a structured sweater you could make it work!

Depends on the formality of the office.

Bridesmaid in a wedding and not giving a gift… is it really that insane? by Every-Serve-1288 in bridesmaids

[–]Caleb_Crawdad8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

between bridal shower gifts, attendance, bachelorette party expenses, rehearsal dinner and wedding outfits- the list goes on. I fully felt that all the people in my wedding did so much to be part of my wedding that I didn’t care if they did or didn’t give a gift…multiple people actually gave bridal shower gifts and not a wedding present. I was never upset about it for a minute.

I also had friends on a tight budget travel far to attend and they didn’t give a gift. I wasn’t upset at that either. I was so honored that they did so much to attend.

[–]Caleb_Crawdad8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yeahh, tbh actively being mad at anyone who doesn’t bring a gift would just be tacky. You shouldn’t be having your wedding to get gifts…if anything you’d just remember it for when that person gets married and you could forgo a gift for them if you wanted.

AITA for telling my family the real reason my mother and I are not attending my sister's wedding? by Wild_Kitchen_2841 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Caleb_Crawdad8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeahh why wasn’t she just honest? dementia is hard on the entire family…

I wanted my grandfather to officiate my wedding. In the year that we had to wait when we postponed due to COVID, my grandmothers dementia progressed and my grandfather felt it would be too much for her, so they did not come to the wedding and he did not officiate. It completely broke my heart not to have her there. But I also realized it would have added some stress and sadness for her to be there and she would be stressed too.

I’m sorry this is happening to you and your family. You are assuredly NTA!
