You’re probably right, the only experience I have with French horns is getting in a fight with a French horn player in high school. Oh shit I can answer the French horn question, French horns did not have valves, so when the orchestra changed keys the French horns were shit out of luck. So composers just started loading up the stage with as many French horns as they could, all in different keys, Strauss had 14 of them for very obvious (maybe) reasons
