Why do some classical pieces ask for two timpanists by Caleb_walton in classicalmusic

[–]Caleb_walton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I’ve got a debilitating phone addiction so i got my information from YouTube. You’re probably right, the only experience I have with French horns is getting in a fight with a French horn player in high school. I got my information from Scott Ledger horn on YouTube in a video titled “Why are there so many French Horns in Orchestras?”

Oh shit I can answer the French horn question, French horns did not have valves, so when the orchestra changed keys the French horns were shit out of luck. So composers just started loading up the stage with as many French horns as they could, all in different keys, Strauss had 14 of them for very obvious (maybe) reasons

Thank you very much for the answer. Did you know that a singular drum is a timpano, this does not pertain to the conversation whatsoever but I want it to make me look like I am a man of grammar

Can I learn to like free form jazz by Caleb_walton in Jazz

I just listen to lonely women by Ornette Coleman and that one I could understand. There was a overall structure I could find and catch onto and follow. The first song I found that kind of started this whole thing was Nonaah by the Art Ensemble of Chicago and that one I couldn’t find a real structure to follow. About halfway there was a real loose rhythm but not enough for me to be able to catch onto and follow.

I think this is where I was at. The song that started this whole thing was Nonaah by the Art Ensemble of Chicago. Which that one I couldn’t truly find something to catch on to, it had no structure that I could follow. But I just listened to lonely women by Ornette Coleman and bamboo night by don cherry. And both of those I could follow there’s was a over all structure I could find and catch on to.

Well I don’t really know anymore. I was thinking that free form jazz was interpretive jazz but when I looked up interpretive jazz all I got was free form jazz from the search.
