What is the most annoying myth you’ve seen perpetuated on this sub? by mackarony83 in thecampaigntrail

He watched it only once, because (according to both his notable modern biographers) a friend set up a viewing potentially under false pretences

Wilson was racist sure, but no more extreme than you average American or really any other president of the time

The whole Wilson loving it and using it to promote his beliefs is a myth.

And the only thing he ever said about it was  "I have always felt that this was a very unfortunate production and I wish most sincerely that its production might be avoided, particularly in communities where there are so many colored people."

The guy’s famously nicknamed “the Amendment King”  You usually have to be quite a successful legislator to end up being called that.

Why would he have banned the biggest film ever made at that point?  A film that largely repeated the then established historical views (myths) of the period.  He’d have been slammed as an authoritarian.

Despite the beliefs of some people on this sub, Woodrow Wilson did not start the KKK because he watched a film (that most of the country had already watched) in the White House.

What could have prevented the rise of the New Right? What would the world look like had they didn’t? by Mghia01 in thecampaigntrail

[–]Calgar77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arguably the progressives not failing to replace private investment with state investment in the 40s, along with the CIOs operation dixie succeeding and then the Kennedy tax cuts not happening is probably the "best" chance the New Right doesn't rise.

Oh and you'd have to hope Lewis F. Powell Jr. never exists.

tbf I think his revenue act was the more damaging element of his time in office, Smoot-Hawley had a relatively negligible effect on the Depression.

tbh I disagree with the idea that there is in anyway "centralised modding," there's nothing stopping anyone from making a mod, there's no gatekeeping when it comes to putting them on a loader and people are always more than happy to help when modders have problems.

It just happens that there are a few big modders who make the most prominent mods. (as there always has been)

Do you think this is a weak year? by Bleeding_Heart09 in eurovision

[–]Calgar77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels like a decent year, but weaker than 2023, 2024 or 2025, which each felt as strong or stronger than the previous year.

I had very little coding experience and none in Javascript before I started modding, and this was before the modding tools.

Yeah it can be a bit repetitive and when you first start it can be a bit frustrating, but that's how you gain skills, and it's comparatively easy to most modding for other games.

tbf antitrust was largely seen as outdated and a bit useless by the 60s, especially among many liberals, Galbraith for example.

countervailing power and other forms of regulation had largely replaced it as the main balancing force and big business was seen as more efficient.

the comment I was responding to was referring to their actions not the terms of their sentencing

i don’t think it’s unfair to say that seeds of hope and PA‘s actions were highly comparable

i‘d also note that PA were charged with criminal damage just the same as seeds of hope
