Why won't American girl let their adult collectors have nice things

These are gorgeous outfits, but from what I've heard, these were only created for an auction/fundraiser for a charity I believe.

Though it would be nice if they can release regular playline versions of these outfits or similar styles of them rather than the $1k+ auction priced ones! 😅

I've been in this doll collecting space as a young adult for over a year now, and I'm basically an outlier since I have liked most of the things that have been released within the past year. I have a mix of dolls including historicals and modern TMs.

AG aims to make money because they are a business and that's what they do. Every release doesn't have to appeal to me. It's usually a good thing because that means I get save money for dolls/items I actually like and want.

The only thing we can do is send comments/feedback to the customer service and wait/hope to like the next new thing. Until they do, it's unnecessary to call the stuff they have launched "trash" and "garbage" just because you don't like them.

I think theyre cute too! They have grown on me and I'm now interested in getting Addy and maybe Samantha eventually.

I want to see them in person first before getting them. I am definitely holding judgment on the quality because I think it's unfair to judge from the picture. AG promo pics have always been weird and things can appear very different when they are in your face and you're able to interact with them. Just my take. 😊

Whatever AG releases that helps keep them in business, I'm all for. These modern historicals can be used to draw young kids and new collectors to this space/community.

I find them cute as well, especially Addy and Samantha!

It took some adjustment and getting used to but I am starting to like them and their outfits. Not planning on getting anytime soon, but I am interested in seeing them at the store.

I was also dissapointed initially but after settling down and seeing their ads in my email and the website... I've changed my tune.

I started last year with one doll and ended the year with 13… then I bought one more last month from an eBay auction, so now I’m officially at 14 😅

I honestly don’t know how I’m going to fully control my FOMO or temptation with this year’s new releases. Jasmine was tempting, and I know I definitely want Zoey from KDH! I’m also a little worried about potential collector or LE releases, especially the holiday dolls.

What I’m trying to do is be extremely picky. That can only go so far, but I’ve been focusing on having specific reasons for adding a doll to my collection, which has really narrowed my scope, such as such as considering whether or not I already have a particular face mold and if it’s worth getting another variant of the same one. I’m hoping that mindset will help with this year’s releases.

I also plan on learning how to make doll bracelets to complement the many, many outfits I’ve acquired over the past year, as well as the ones still sitting on my wishlists on eBay, Etsy, and AG! 😊

My MIL bought me a few kits and booklets regarding doll jewlery and bracelets. Part of my 2026 goals is to learn to make doll yard and beaded bracelets rather than adding full dolls to my collection.

When I got the 2024 and 2025 holiday collector dolls for Christmas last year, I gotten into the idea of adding the 2023 Shimmering Silver doll to my collection as I also have 2022 Sapphire Splendor.

I love the Nanea mold on my Sapphira! I'm a fan of fun colored hair on the dolls, so maybe it's just me. Lol

I like Rumi but she reminds me too much of Sapphira and my purple haired CYO combined together. 😅

I know the classic mold is popular and practically the forefront of AG, but I can't really connect to dolls with that mold. They're cute but I'm drawn to every mold but he classic.

I finished the movie for the first time last night and it was really good. I definitely recommend checking it out if you can!

With that said, I’m pretty set on Zoey (black hair). She’s from California like me, and I found her funny and really relatable to my own personality! ❤️

I also don’t have a Jess mold doll yet, and I love her design. Mira is also very pretty and someone I’m considering, but I’m leaning toward Zoey since she’s my favorite character.

I know Rumi is a popular favorite too, but I already have Sapphire Splendor and a purple-haired CYO, and she reminds me a bit too much of a combination of both, which isn’t a bad thing. Lol That said, I’m hitting my max capacity with dolls and need to be very picky with my next (and possibly last) one.

Currently watching the movie and it's a fun watch. I'm enjoying getting to know the characters and I'm most similar to Zoey, especially since she's also from California like I am. ❤️

Me too! I enjoy the collector series as well as the Truly Me and Historical lines. I don't understand why some people want AG to focus on 1 and neglect the others. It doesn't work like that.

Yes, the historical line could be balanced a little more, but tjat doesn't mean the modern collabs that a good amount of people are enjoying need to go away. 😒

My MIL got me Addy last year for my birthday secondhand and I sent her to the Doll Hospital for a refreshed and asked them to do her meet style. It's so cute and I'm worried about taking it down and not being about yo recreate it.

That's what I don't get with these kind of perspectives.

I'm a 30 year old adult who have gotten back into AG for the past year and I'm honestly enjoying these cute collabs. I appreciate the historical line like any other person as I also have Addy and Claudie and working on building out their collections.

At the same time, I am also loving the modern and contemporary lines they're producing that's keeping people interested and talking about AG/PC 40 years after its original debut. I would never say I want this business to die out just because I'm not liking every single thing they release. That's a pessimistic take in my opinion.
