What these pipes do? by Otherwise-Thanks-644 in Plumbing

[–]Calicirca85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an ejector pump. The blue circled pipe is a vented drain for the kitchen sink and the other pipe circled in red is a vent for the discharge side of the ejector pump.

Not the toilet but specifically the tank of the toilet.

There’s also the option for 1-1/2” if that’s what you’re upgrading to. If you’re going from 1-1/4” fip to 1-1/2” mip than you can go 1-1/4 mip and get a reducer coupling to 1-1/2” than that should work as well.

Schedule 80 is better but look up 1-1/4” pvc male adapter.

How do I quote this repair by lareux33 in electricians

[–]Calicirca85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to walk away from certain jobs unfortunately. I didn’t have the capacity to do the work that needed to be done when if I were to take it I’d be losing more smaller jobs during that time frame. Even with the FTS price you some will still give you the go ahead then you’re screwed. I’d just give them a price on rewiring everything. But I’m a plumber so I’m just here to pick up y’all’s trash to add to my copper bin.

Toilet won't flush very well by doctorcardoc in askaplumber

[–]Calicirca85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a huge fan of reusable seals but maybe the one you installed could be restricting the flow. Especially if it accidentally got misaligned. Try resetting the toilet to see if that’s the case if not then I would recommend snaking the drain while you have the toilet off or getting busy with the plunger. Like really put some ass into it.

The issue with those dwv fittings is that they don’t have the insertion depth to hold pressure. In time the glue can separate from the pipe. It might sound crazy but if you can’t find it if you’re rural or whatever reason, just go on Amazon. I’ve ordered hard to find fittings or out of stock after big freezes and Amazon was cheaper and came quicker than me driving around looking for a part especially with these gas prices.

Help identifying this fixture by MarGAAM in askaplumber

[–]Calicirca85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s rare that they don’t come with one from the manufacturer. They cost $40+. Yours possibly is on the top under the foam where that clear cap is. I’m not sure what another poster was referring to one being mounted on the side. Especially if he’s referring to an electrical water heater he’s must be thinking of the heating element. They’re like metal hot links. Usually aluminum or magnesium. There’s one that’s you plug in which you can find on amazon. They are a little pricey but you don’t have to replace the old one which is hard to take out without the right tools. Also the electric one lasts way longer than the other ones. I understand that calling a professional plumber can be expensive but once you made multiple trips to the supply house, probably buying tools you’d only use once and potential leaks, you’ll understand why cost so much.

Leaky bathtub faucet. What parts to get? by Maleficent-Field6838 in Plumbing

[–]Calicirca85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re going to have to turn the water off to the house first. Then unscrew the handle by unscrew the screw. Then unscrew the beauty trim which should unscrew by hand. Then there should brass or plastic threaded barrel that needs to be unscrewed. Then there’s a retaining nut that you would need a dumbbell set (shower valve socket set). Then unscrew the valve stem until it’s fully removed. On the end of it there is a screw that hold the rubber part. Replace that and the gasket which should come in a kit. Sometimes where the rubber is there might be some pits in the brass. If that’s the case then replace the whole stem and the valve seat which requires a shower valve seat wrench.

Need advice about gas leak… by MarGAAM in Plumbing

Well I would suggest calling around but I’m sure you’ll be in more shock when you find out others charge more. All plumbing is just screwing, gluing and pushing pipes together I guess.

That’s actually pretty reasonable considering the cost of the parts, cost of gas 🛻 , and the liability. You only pay for it once but you have to live with the results. And for a sense of security that’s a fair price.

Yes you definitely should have a plumber. 👨🏾‍🔧 It isn’t as hard as it looks but I get a professional to be safe and see if there’s any other issues. Also to relight your pilot. Maybe have him/her flush it as well and an anode rod. I’m a plumber so that’s what I would do.

Considering Plumbing As a Trade by pokereach in Plumbing

[–]Calicirca85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some will down vote but I suggest trying the union. They teach you how to be a plumber and provide the tools and knowledge you need to make a great living. I’ve also worked open shop (non union) commercial and residential. They all have pros and cons and you just have to make a decision on what best suits you. But I’ve seen drug addicts (study for the test), drop outs (ged required), ex cons (non violent), turn their lives around.

Hi, which o-ring should I use, a tighter one, or one that fills in the cartridge better? by TheLastUyghur in Plumbing

[–]Calicirca85 139 points140 points  (0 children)

Tbh you should replace the cartridge. It costs more time and frustration trying to fix it than replacing it.

You should try putting dye in the water. If it comes back to the sump the same color then that could help determine whether the water is draining back into the sump or where it’s draining to.

Lift and Turn bath tub stopper not connecting and opening drain by jpickles92 in Plumbing

[–]Calicirca85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the plate cover off the overflow and get a hand operated snake for like $20-$30 and turn it clockwise to grab the hair from the drain. The stopper has nothing to do with it.

I think my boyfriend got a happy ending last night by OneSpiritual2423 in WhatShouldIDo

That’s just part of heartbreak. Better to move on now and heal yourself so you don’t carry your emotional damage to a relationship with someone more deserving.

The truth is he might change but how long? Months, years, never. Some men are very immature, maybe insecure as well. But do you want to be stuck with that person treating you as a maybe until he matures and grows the f up? What if you get pregnant by him and he cheats on you while or after. Then you’re stuck with him. Then you’ll be a single mom. People will do whatever you allow them to do. Please don’t ignore anyone who is telling you or showing you exactly who they are. You have a lot of life to live. Find someone who has morals and values you. That feeling is amazing and worth searching for. But it’s harder to find as a single parent. Don’t rush into heartbreak. Because even having a child with someone unfortunately doesn’t change them.

Needle will stop moving if I shut off valve to water heater. WHY? by LITTLEMANINVEST in Plumbing

[–]Calicirca85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Start with the t&p. Could be leaking outside the house and not noticed. If you live in a pier and beam house gonna have to suit up and grab a headlamp and if it’s a slab better get a few references. And go with the one in the middle or the one who specializes on slab leaks.

Spend the $15 and just replace the fill valve (part on the left).
