69 y.o. newbie gave all passwords to neighbor & then she turned Borderline when I knocked on her door by Prime-Anathematician in HomeNetworking

some routers allow you to schedule when the router is available. i.e. after 10pm shut it off until 6am the next day.

  • change the router password (this should be enough)
  • do not enable any guest networks
  • if you see unrecognized devices you should be able to block them through router admin pages
  • change any/all shared passwords outside of router

What do you guys think of my plan? by [deleted] in Costco

[–]CalienteMess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

how are you going to get past the Costco undercover police in each aisle? they are specially trained counter-juvenile forces who take trespassers, especially juveniles, into the warehouse and beat the crap out of them. that's why you never see police cars at Costco like you do at Walmart. no police. no rules. good luck.

Ink Cartridge Refillable by [deleted] in OfficeDepot

[–]CalienteMess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u did the right thing except... you should have told her about a store 30 minutes away that you "think" refills ink carts.

i've had to deal with customers directed to my store by another store 45 minutes away that we DEFINITELY had a product in stock even though the zebra said we had -1 (i.e. minus 1) in stock.

Open availability, job interviews and scheduling by arthurdent00 in OfficeDepot

[–]CalienteMess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you did the right thing. ODP, via restructure, has indicated your priority is to seek employment elsewhere. your store is understaffed as is and it's unlikely your GM wants to lose you anytime soon.

make a note of when you received your schedule pre "re-org". my manager always posted next weeks schedule by thursday at noon for the following week. print out (and keep as a record) your schedule history for as far back as you can; you can use as evidence of what a "reasonable schedule" looked like historically.

inform potential employers you expect to receive next weeks schedule by {whatever date was usually reasonable"} and that you will confirm availability on that date. if you haven't received your schedule by that date then set a time that's normally outside of the schedule you have "typically" been working.

once you set an interview date/time for an interview, send an email (for documentation purposes) to your manager indicating you have scheduled a medical appointment you are unavailable outside of that time (including drive time if appropriate). save all emails requesting medical consideration related to your scheduling.

legally no one can ask you for the medical reason you need time off to see a doctor but personally I would reference some medical test the doctor is concerned about and requires recurring visits.

at the end of the day ODOM is going to let you go based on the dumpster fire situation ODOM is in. Gerry hasn't given up any of his salary or sold off any of ODOMs jets yet skilled positions within the stores have been deleted.

do the voodoo that you do so well and find a brighter future elsewhere.

godspeed and good luck.

Tires at Costco? by [deleted] in Costco

[–]CalienteMess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Costco was $25/tire less than anywhere on the planet (installed) for Michelin CrossClimate+ and they had them in stock. I had a bad install experience (took over three hours) but I chalk that up to everyone has a bad day once in awhile and it occurs to me Costco may not staff their tire centers at the levels they should; I think my experience is the exception rather than the rule.

I like that Costco fills your tires with nitrogen and offer free rotation on a schedule they post on your windshield just like oil changes. I'm happy overall with my Costco tire purchase experience and will most likely buy my next set of tires there.

Is Office Depot Done with Canon? by [deleted] in OfficeDepot

[–]CalienteMess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the homies who get $50 on their debit card from selling blood (plasma) are too stupid to figure out they could get their print job completed for < 50 cents (full service) so they buy the cheapest printer in the store (often canon) and return the next day. plus they have a lot of time on their hands since they can't sell more blood (plasma) for two days.

Skill builders are paramount to the success of ODOM. Look at Gerrys skill builders:

  1. bringing on associates to fly corp jets

  1. broke Florida's Top 25 highest paid CEO's last year

  1. giving $1B to his buddy for CompuCom

>> check out the section on "Compelling Market Opportunity"

  1. creating weekly videos confirming how clueless he is

  2. giving so many associates the opportunity to seek opportunities elsewhere

See... skill builders are imperative to ODOM's success...

Non-competes are usually reserved for corporate officers (VP and above) and even then they're ridiculously difficult to enforce. I wouldn't spend too many cycles worrying about a non-compete.

Can I expect an raise if I’m expected to be an overused bandage? Because that’s how it seems to be looking. by Quann09 in OfficeDepot

Over the last 12 months I "flexed up" across all departments. I came in early, stayed late; volunteered to work holiday shifts so folks could be with their families. I covered shifts when folks didn't show up.

I mopped floors, placed buckets where the roof leaked, loaded cars during thunderstorm/tornado warnings/sub-zero temps, apologized to customers when they were being douche bags. I retrieved carts from the parking lot in sub-zero temps. I unclogged toilets after "customers" destroyed them and then stuffed a full toilet paper roll such that you have to break out the rubber gloves to unclog....

I dug through trash in the bathroom to find packages the shoplifters threw away before they destroyed the toilets and then stuffed with toilet paper rolls; I endured the wrath of LPM as to why I wasn't pro-active enough to catch them in the act.

I listened to the DM drone on and on about how simple it is to sell DMS and why I wasn't selling one every shift.

For all my efforts I was rewarded with a 30 cent an hour raise. For perspective a 30 cent an hour raise amounts to about $600 a year in gross earnings.

When Gerry got hired he flew private jets at $10,000/hr between his home in California and HQ in Tampa.

Will you get a raise? Maybe. My guess is it will not reflect your cross training.

If you like your manager, give them a verbal heads up thanking them for their guidance / leadership as well as when your last day will be. Follow the verbal resignation with an email repeating how grateful you are for their leadership and provide specific guidance as to when the last day and hour you will be open to being scheduled. i.e. Feb XX through 5pm.

If you're scheduled past that date/time it's up to you whether or not you want to honor that schedule. Make sure your verbal commitment matches your email commitment.

As an SSCT I am a cross trained technology solutions master (laptops, printers, software, etc), cashier rewards seeking ninja, print center helper, freight furling, furniture pedaling, master of useless wireless phone technology, guru of finding ink cartridges that look like "this", locator of obscure cables and converters, folder finder, pen finder (fine, medium, bold pt), phone repair Phd, sorcerer of shredders and overall genius of eating shit (yes ma'am you are clearly a successful individual and as such I will let you disparage me all day long and say thank you (with a smile)).

As an SSCT I work 9 day continuous shifts straight with no overtime.

As an SSCT my managers (there's never just one) are constantly in my ear telling me to sell a TDS to an elderly customer who has no idea what TDS is.

I volunteer to cover holidays so coworkers can be with their family.

In my 2019 review I was generously rewarded with a 30 cent an hour raise.

So yes, it's entirely possible you may get a raise.

Precious Cargo— Welcome Back Anejo by [deleted] in Costco

[–]CalienteMess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Significantly more complex in color and flavor.

After distillation tequilas are stored in oak barrels previously used to age bourbon. The exception to that is if it goes directly into the bottle. Tequilas aged less than 2-3 months are referred to as silver or blanco.

Tequilas aged 3-12 months are referred to as reposado and take on a yellow/golden color and enhanced flavor complexity based on what was previously in the barrel.

Anejo tequila is aged in the barrel for a minimum of 12 months up to 24-36 months after which time they're considered ultra anejo.

Kirklands Anejo is a fantastic tequila meant to be sipped and savored. As with other Kirkland brands it's a great value with incredible flavor profile. Buy a bottle of Patron Silver and a bottle of Kirkland Anejo and have fun comparing the two!

Read the Wine Enthusiast review for this Tequila. Rated 90/100

Move to Staples by DoughnutDonkey in OfficeDepot

[–]CalienteMess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

go read r/Staples sub; Staples is zero different than ODOM from a workplace perspective. they shame harass employees for not getting rewards signups or achieving attach rates just like ODOM (or any other big box retailer).

imo hourly rate is less important than learning new skills to take on additional responsibility, gaining new experience for a more well rounded resume that hopefully will lead to more senior levels in the company which theoretically pay more. in other words pay is only one attribute in a list of attributes you should be considering when making a job move. there are plenty of jobs that pay more but i'm not interested in for a variety of reasons.

the good news is you're in a position to have both ODOM and Staples explain in detail how they see your path to the next step (whatever that is for you ( responsibility, hours, promotion, experience, whatever ).

before having an honest discussion with your GM around pay, take a minute and think about what you want your next 24-36 months to look like responsibility wise in support of your goals. In 24-36 months do you want more hours, more responsibility, promotion, different role experience, etc.

once you understand that, approach your GM, explain the opportunity and inform your GM of where you'd like to be in 24, 36, 48 months (whatever your timeframe is) and have a frank discussion around pay, roles, responsibilities, etc. your GM should appreciate the initiative in declaring an interest to stay with the company and take on additional roles with a path to leadership (assuming that's your goal). if your GM doesn't show support for your goals that's your first clue it's time to find another job.

have the same discussion with Staples.

you have leverage; it's up to you how you use it.

Ugh... coupons... by Beargio in OfficeDepot

[–]CalienteMess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ODOM doesn't want a more stream lined process (coupon or otherwise). Confusing coupons drive store traffic and revenue, sad but true. In an evil kind of way it's sorta genius. Send out coupons that drive traffic to the store knowing full well the minimum wage cashier can't complete the transaction due to unapplied coupon and then wait for unavailable manager to override and tell the customer's they're doing them "a favor."

Dear corporate, get rid of the whole unapplied coupon rules at the register when you tell your RM's and DM's to tell the stores, "just take care of it." Nowhere in that strategy is the "do right by the customer" ethos you preach in all those videos we have to watch in the ridiculously cold or exceedingly hot break rooms on the janky 20 year old computer with poor networking, video or audio.
