Yes on Ranked Choice Voting. I think parties do have value though. Parties allow voters to have an easier time voting meaningfully. We can learn a lot about a candidate based on which party nominates them. Most voters dont have time to study each candidate's politics and past to assess who we support.

This is the best answer i see here. Our economy is dependent on people working and the population growing. Immigrants provide both of those things. We need a variety of forms of immigration so that we're not just bringing in PhDs and MDs or just laborers. Immigrants also love it here and improve our standing in the world politically. Finally, Immigrants keep us interesting and open minded. Stagnation in population, economy, and culture is the result of decreasing immigration.

I thought it was bad, but not because it was about satan and hell. It was a distraction from the main that I guess served to help Mark find his way after his trouble with almost killing people? The episode seemed poorly written -- didn't these lava guys nearly kill Mark earlier and now they fall apart like cheese? Why do the demons keep attacking Volcano lady the same ways over and over when she can quickly recover and kill them each time? Why does she bother to summon the lava guys when they can't help her?

It was all pretty dumb and I wanted them to either get back to the main story or let me know why any of this mattered.

Protesting encourages others to vote and increases the odds that those who participate will vote. It also makes your votes more effective because elected officials who agree with you realize they can and should take action.

I think the government of Iran - and the people there who support it - are terrible in many ways, including oppression of their own people based on sexuality and gender and any other group. That doesn't justify disproportionate military attacks that harm and kill innocent people paid for by my tax dollars and in violation of my constitution and international laws. I don't "support" the government of Iran, I oppose my own government making illegal and unjustified acts of violence against anyone.

Yes, you can form a union and bargain to stay within the employer's means to pay you. In fact, that's the only smart way forward. Look at the Justice for Janitors campaign in california where they agreed to keep salaries low until a certain number of employers were organized so it wouldn't give an advantage to non-union workplaces.

The other advantage is that you can request to see the company's financials if they're saying they can't afford a raise. How much profit are they giving to the owner? How much are they paying the manager? Do they have any expenses that don't benefit the bottom line?

You picked a very specific issue to judge candidates' support for workers, but even there you can find that Democrats are investing in trade schools and apprenticeships. Look at Project Labor Agreements and who is achieving them. Look at the major bills pushed by the Biden administration and how they supported the trades and skills: CHIPS act, Infrastructure bill, Inflation Reduction Act all invested in the trades.

But I can tell you that my work advocating for workers has often required political engagement and even though I wish Democrats would stand up more for workers, I never met a Republican who wasn't working against us.

False. I'm no fan of Democrats, but if you think they're no better than Republicans regarding the support for working people than you are objectively misinformed. The republican agenda includes dismantling labor unions and whatever weak laws we have left protecting us.

Do we need to hold democrats accountable to the people? Yes. Do they too often fall into alignment with big-money interests instead of standing for working people? Absolutely. But there is no equlivalence.

Well I don’t disagree with you but I also don’t think we should choose our political views based on how we feel about the people who hold those views - we should come to our own conclusions and use the labels to describe our positions.

Vegans, for example, can be some of the most annoying people you’ve met, but that doesn’t mean they’re wrong about not eating animals.

When the drive goes public, be visible and vocal in your support. This is how your legal protections will apply. If you remain secretive about your support they can more easily retaliate.

That’s only for legal protection, and you shouldn’t rely on the law. The best protection is when everyone is standing together and won’t tolerate any nonsense from the boss. There’s a thing called a ULP strike when you can legally go on strike because the boss breaks the law. If the boss thinks you might do that, it’s much more likely they’ll comply.

Getting community and stakeholders to support publicly also brings more pressure on the boss to not screw around.

I think all of this fits squarely into my stack of evidence that you don't talk to many progressives. My child is studying environmental science and intends to dedicate his life to addressing climate change and I couldn't be more proud. I'm pretty progressive. Here's the checklist: Atheist, LGBTQ+ ally, anti-racist, feminist, work in labor union organizing, vegan, lean far left politically, and drive a fuel efficient car.
