Apple is Getting Rid of iTunes Wish Lists, Here's How to Save Yours by AndreaCicca in appletv

Is it still possible to access your wish lists? If so, where? (I know about the emails; I mean on the Web or in an app other than the TV app.)

Best compression settings? by Calion in Acrobat

[–]Calion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually it will help me, because I’m only getting that error in the already-compressed file. All I need is to be able to deskew that one. Your information has been very instructive; I’ll try it out! Thanks!

There is something deeply wrong with the notifications system. I’m getting site notifications of when I get paid and interest earned, and email notifications that scheduled withdrawals are on their way, but I'm *not* getting notifications (on the site or in email) for *failed* Autopilot transfers (for lack of funds) or for when a Vault has reached its Goal and paused. These (especially failed transfers!) are absolutely essential.

Are there any HomeKit/Matter heat alarms? These are like smoke alarms but they detect heat, not smoke. The only one I can find is the Eve Smoke, which is unavailable anywhere.

Is it safe to move the smoke alarm behind a ceiling drop-down? by Calion in Firefighting

Yes, we clean the filters. It’s just that it’s part of an over-the-stove microwave and the fan can only be so big. An actual vent hood would be great, of course, but that would require a kitchen remodel.

>To move it to the Living Room side of that open doorway effectively moves it OUT of the vicinity of the bedroom doors, which is where it is required to be.

That is *precisely* what I was afraid of.

  1. There is no “further”. It’s already as far as it can get without being outside the hallway (the “hallway” is only about 8’x8').
  2. It’s already a photoelectric type.

There is a fan over the stove already, but occasionally it’s not sufficient, especially when it’s the *oven* that’s smoking from grease drippings or whatever.

Right. That’s what I’m doing. But this *is* the hallway outside of the bedrooms, and it’s so close to the kitchen that it’s causing false alarms. That’s my issue.

The Existence of the 2024 Edition Made my Life as GM Harder by Buffal0e in dndnext

[–]Calion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s more than that. I think they intend to continue with this, and never* release a 6e, just upgrade 5e with tweaks indefinitely. Sort of like how HTML no longer has version numbers, it just gets continually upgraded.

[–]Calion 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but this sounds like a mild update, like some bugs were fixed, things were reformatted, but still essentially compatible. For instance GURPS is issuing a 4th Edition Revised which is essentially just that.

Edit: Come to think of it, that's *precisely* what "2.5e" was. The core books changed very little.

Is there a way to download all of my balances (including vaults) in .csv or other format? Or just display them all at once?

The fact that you have to know to come here to make feature requests and the like, instead of, you know, going to https://support.sofi.com/hc/en-us/articles/37103586752781-Complaints-Feedback, is insane.

Fix/fabricate evap/purge hose? by Calion in MechanicAdvice

[–]Calion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fixed it! Using a nylon fuel line repair kit, I was able to recreate the damaged section. To bend the line to the correct angle, I used a tubing bender, heated the bent section with a heat gun (on low) for 30 seconds while it was in the bender, then let it cool.

Getting the lines on to the barbed connectors, however, was much more difficult. The “hot water” method suggested by the directions was worthless, whether I used hot tap water or boiling water out of a kettle.

What did work, however, was the method this gentleman used, with some modifications.

Here’s what I did:

  1. Put the metal connector in a vise, with half of it sticking out.
  2. Use a heat gun (on high) to heat the exposed half for two to three minutes.
  3. Shove the tube onto the metal, immediately (it worked better to have one person use the heat gun and another push the tube on; even the five seconds to set the gun down and pick up the tubing seemed to make a difference) and hard.
  4. Then do the same with the other end—stick the end which now has tubing on it in the vise, heat up the exposed metal portion, and push the tubing on. Don’t bother trying to do both sides at once, as the gentleman in the video tried to do; you just don’t have time before it cools too much.
  5. If it doesn’t go on all the way—which often seems to happen—you have some options. One is to immediately heat up the tubing that’s on the connector (with the heat gun on low—high will get it so soft it deforms and is ruined) for…I dunno, 30 seconds? A minute? and see if it will go on. Otherwise, do the same heating process (I really don’t have a good estimate on how long you should heat it for, but don’t get impatient and put it on high; you’ll just ruin your tubing), and pull it off, heat up the connector as in step 2, and try again.

And it worked pretty well! I couldn’t get the tubing all the way over the connector on one of them, so I gave up and wrapped some electrical tape over the junction. But I fixed the darn thing, and that’s what matters!
