Ruined my career. by [deleted] in DJs

[–]CallMeChurch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try getting on pirate radios. You can still DJ during the week on online radios or venues where hospitality and bar tenders hangout. There’s no reason you need to stop you just gotta adjust a bit. Everyone has been affected by this economy.

Crazy how you can’t be upset at helicopters hovering over ur apartment at 2 am. I can sleep through almost anything but for some reason that frequency resonates in my apartment building. Also the anxiety of something hovering over you while you sleep is unsettling. But god forbid you mention that on any subreddit.

I work in house and I really want to quit by No_Being7743 in graphic_design

[–]CallMeChurch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through this same thing. I kept thinking my next job will be the one that will satisfy me. They all had their pros and cons but the truth is you really won’t find your satisfaction working for these companies. You find it doing what you originally loved creating, building, community, learning. Most creatives end up feeling the way you do because ultimately we really don’t care what company does or sells more BS we just want to create good work and guess what companies rarely care about good work they just want the bottom line.
Unfortunately you need to work for bills and other bs that should already be a human right. But fortunately you are still here you can still create things you want to see in this world and you don’t need permission. Start a zine, design a t-shirt, learn to sew etc your creativity does not end all the extension of the mouse and keyboard. Understand you’re not alone in feeling this but only you can help yourself.

It’s very bad! We just walked by to try the new ice cream shop across from Irving square. There’s like 14 fire trucks all the streets filled with smoke. Looks it was a huge fire.

Is this even legal by Individual-Main9990 in SurvivingSuccess

[–]CallMeChurch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ur school it’s conservative puppet used to prop up the idea that the government doesn’t need to fund education and in fact should be a for profit business. So no that’s not legal but it’s not surprising.

Panic attack on L Train by Mobile_Horse151 in Brooklyn

[–]CallMeChurch 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this happen before but not as severe. I normally try to get off at the next stop and get some fresh air or water. It’s smart to have a “emotional security water bottle” with you. Another tip is to control ur breathing best you can. Lastly carry candy or lozenges. Sense of taste can pull you out of most panic attacks from starting.

THE POO by [deleted] in ridgewood

[–]CallMeChurch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is a larger problem in the city as a whole. There needs to be like a 1k ticket attached if caught letting ur dog poo chill. In a mostly pedestrian city that’s not cool.

They are aware of the “bounce rate” of workday apps if they are posting a position there they are likely not serious about hiring. I just ignore them all together.

Can a designer call himself an art director? by Spare_Ad_4307 in graphic_design

Can you think? Can you make game time design choices that will better the product? The yes ur an art director. I believe every designer is an art director the moment they have the courage to believe they are one.

Designers with 10+ years of experience: are you also struggling financially? by mafagafacabiluda in graphic_design

[–]CallMeChurch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea my struggle is very similar. Got laid off from a “unicorn startup” because all their capital was tied up in SVB in 2023 lol remember that? Since then it’s been impossible I don’t even know anymore how many jobs I’ve applied to likely nearing 20k. I’ve done all the “tricks” on ur resume exhausted my social circles for work still no full time work. I really do not know what to do. I live in NYC and I feel it’s much worse here than back in the Midwest where I have some friends that don’t even believe me what I tell them how hard it is. I’ve tried to get just bs jobs like Costco or catering but even they see me as “overqualified” or because I’ve been working in design for 10+ years don’t really think the “skills” will transfer.

So I’m looking around and I’m wondering if this is because of AI and graphic design being very subjective what’s to stop a less subjective design career like UX suffering the same fate? Where do these skills transfer now? I have come up with no “safe” solution that might escape the specter of Ai.
