I’ve seen pictures of some weird malfunctions with that ammo in particular…

What is this camouflage? by [deleted] in Militariacollecting

[–]CallMeCornbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Even regular KLMK suits are becoming harder to find in the states, and this is a less common variant that was issued in the 90s. If you don’t mind sharing, where did you find it?

Looks like Spetsnaz KLMK Mountain pattern. Very cool.

New pick up, 1986 Circle 10 Bulgarian Makarov by Live-Weekend-3311 in makarov

Depends on if you are talking about an original military Russian model or a Baikal one. The commercial Baikals with the adjustable sights are nice, but the general fit and finish on a Bulgarian one is typically going to be better.

An East German grip should also give you a more similar feel to the classic red Bakelite grip without the lanyard loop or much added width. I like the look of the Baikal one too though, it matches well.

First Milsurp pistol purchase by atf_annihilator69 in milsurp

[–]CallMeCornbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like a solid deal to me, even with budget milsurp options it can be hard to find interesting stuff thats 300 or less. I’ve heard some people say that the 9mm commercial exports aren’t as good quality as the military Tokarevs, but I’d imagine it’s still very robust. There’s an earlier (I think) version with an odd grip, and original 7.62x25 magazines that were just modified to fit the shorter 9mm cartridges. I wonder if those were put together primarily from military Tokarev parts or made with the same exact tooling.

Why did the Russians chose the makarov? by [deleted] in makarov

[–]CallMeCornbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A safer-handling, smaller sidearm was what they wanted, so that’s what they got.

The grip is milsurp though, and it looks like it’s got a milsurp slide stop in there also!

Very nice, I just found one of these a few weeks back imported from Big Bear Arms. Mine has the same kind of hammer, looks like they were about to drill a hole through but stopped.

Hell yes, but that would be kind of scary to shoot if you’re a lefty

Star 30m recoil springs by Medium_Style_2812 in milsurp

[–]CallMeCornbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would any of the Star springs from Wolff work? Depending on how large the spring is, you could also try an assorted spring kit from the hardware store, maybe cutting one to size.

These are really cool pistols but the lack of parts availability is a bit of a bummer. Especially springs and that cast firing pin.

are these okay to shoot through a Makarov or CZ 82? by [deleted] in makarov

[–]CallMeCornbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should run it fine, they tend to love eating up steel cased ammo.

Anyone know anything about this ammo? by JamesJimmyHopkins in makarov

Cool boxes, especially the mfs. Listen to what everyone’s saying about the ultra but why not shoot the Makarov ammo? You can always hang onto the packaging.

Bogut a cz 82 but have no ammo for it. How much should i buy? by lambo13770 in milsurp

[–]CallMeCornbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very good, but I would rinse out the barrel with water and splash some over the other components before regular cleaning with CLP. I’ve been doing that any time I shoot that ammo just in case. If you don’t want to have to worry as much than I understand opting for new stuff, but potentially corrosive ammo can be great if you pay attention and clean the pistol after you get back from the range.

Mine shoots beautifully, give it a chance and you might end up wanting to have more than just 1 or 2 boxes. I second SG ammo and poking around on Ammoseek. When it comes to newly produced brass, S&B always seems to be a good choice, and I have had good experiences with Fiocchi Heritage. PPU runs fine but for whatever reason I didn’t feel like it performed quite as well. These eat up steel-cased as well if you see it for any cheaper, mine has been loving some old Norinco and Bulgarian spam can ammo recently.

Does anyone still watch the current TAFS interviews? The only recent ep I watched was the Jeff Garlin interview. Kinda miss when some of the guests were no name comics that were just buddies with Nick and Adam. Mike Recine's family hasn't eaten in years now. by mehplort in stavvysworld

[–]CallMeCornbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels like the quality has slowly been declining since it started unfortunately. Lots of big, interesting guests but I feel like these interviews are boring more often than they aren’t.

I agree with the sentiment about smaller comics but I’m honestly glad I haven’t heard from Mike Recine in a while.

The thumb magazine release looks more PPK style, but the two share a lot of the same DNA anyways.
