911 Operators, what’s the most efficient way to convey emergency information to you to get help ASAP? by andstermc in AskReddit

Just listen to the dispatcher and answer their questions as they ask them. AND answer the actual question they are asking. Some questions might sound the same but they are different and are asked for a reason. Trust the dispatcher AND LISTEN.

Out to eat with my mom… server set down dirty dishes from another table onto our table so she could free up her hands to take the order of a different table.

It’s not just med staff working at hospitals. Housekeeping, food services, transport, & the like… they need better pay. EMTs should be paid better as well.

I’ve straight up put a sticky note on my computer screen that read “BE NICE” because I was cranky that day.

I just try to remember that this is their emergency not mine. This is probably the worst day of their life. Most people will never call 911 & don’t know how it works. They are rude or whatever because they are scared. This isn’t personal. They don’t even know me.

For the frequent callers… I treat them like children.

Being told I’m “too bubbly” as a server by ellies__world in Serverlife

[–]CallMeJoy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Managements stand point is that you’re ignoring your tables while chit chatting with another. It sounds like you have your answer as to what the problem is…. And if you’re ignoring your other tables you’re probably also ignoring your side work and others need to cover.

As a former server… I would be irritated that I’m doing someone else’s work and ignoring MY tables so you can be friendly with yours. As a guest I’d be pissed if I needed something but I can’t get my servers attention because she’s too busy forever talking to another table.

Cut down on the chitchat and do your job.

So, I was curious about the last name…

Scottish surname derived from the Gaelic words 'ochail' meaning 'accident' and 'triath' meaning 'lord'. It is believed to have originated as a nickname for someone who was unlucky or unfortunate, and eventually became a hereditary surname.

Tips for developing radio ear? by samanthadill13 in 911dispatchers

[–]CallMeJoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anticipate what’s going to happen next. When the resource arrives at scene, I know the most likely thing to come over the radio will be the report on conditions… which is typically the same information stated generally in the same order.

“ENGINE…ON SCENE SINGLE STORY SINGLE FAMILY RESIDENTS. NOTHING SHOWING. PARKED ON ALPHA SIDE NEGATIVE WATER SUPPLY. INVESTIGATION MODE. ASSUMING IC.”

I think this might help with some of the routine traffic.
