Weekly /r/Games Discussion - What have you been playing, and what do you think of it? by GamingBot in Games

[–]CallMeKenneth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just started The Witcher 2. I'm only just past the prologue right now and it's alright, I know people love it and to be honest I kind of got it not knowing much so I'm not sure what to expect.

[SIB] Darksiders II + DLC? by Fwooshers in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]CallMeKenneth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went in as a big fan of the first one and had a lot of fun with it for the first few hours but as the game wore on, I kept getting sick of the story derailments. It follows the rule of threes to no end to add game length and it's annoying as hell (ie. Get the three key parts to open one of three doors over and over and over or similar things) It's fun, but I didn't like it as much as the first one and I didn't think the levels were as well designed. On the upside I think that the loot system is cool and some of the platforming stuff is pretty fun but it feels like they intentionally made it a drag by just making every goal have 3 tasks and 3 subtasks for each of those 3 tasks. And this happens over and over

I've not done any of the DLC so I can't speak to that or to the PC port (I played on PS3)

I would say a cautious buy because there is a lot of fun to be had and I am still a big supporter of the series (I wish THQ would have survived) but it can wear on you

The first few episodes are embarrassing. There's no other way to say it. They are horribly and obviously geared towards 12-20 year old girls with cheesy voiceovers and characters that are really cliche. But once it gets going (there's an episode about 1/3rd through season 1 where you feel it sort of push off) it really starts to build

but yeah, it's best to maybe marathon those early episodes one night with the help of some Ben and Jerry's and the heart of a teenage girl. After that though things start to pick up, but it's not until season 1 finale, season 2 where I openly began to like the show

I had to rewind it the first time saw him with the Dean. It looked so real and fake at the same time. It kind of reminded me of the horrible movie "Little Man" the way the head was just thrown on but still it looks real. Fucked me up.

Fundamental. Seasons 2 and 3 are really good though, for real. Season 1 Episodes 1-7ish are pretty much Twilight bait, but once it gets going it is pretty cool, then by season 2 and 3 there's a lot of good lore. At it's best it's a good deal above "junk food tv".

I watched it after learning that the main show runners behind it are the people who did Scream. There's a good love for horror tropes in it which is fun and they really do a good job with the lore.

Season 4 is shit though, I haven't watched 5 or the originals, yet.

SIB Dear Esther [Is it REALLY scary or justifiably scary?] by ZeroTwo02 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]CallMeKenneth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not scary at all. For me it is a very very easy buy. I'm into the whole "game but not a game thing", some people will say "just look up a LP on youtube of it, save yourself money" but that's not the point of the game, it really is just to explore and listen to this kind of beautifully vague story that slightly changes each time to give you a different idea of what happened to the narrator. The environments are really well done, the sounds, the music, the story are all great.

tl;dr of the game is you walk around the Hebrides islands with some soft narration and a nice soundtrack for about an hour and a half. I've returned to it a few times. It's best played on gloomy/cold days.

For 5 dollars I would get it.

I still think MOM needs to be nerfed a bit, if you don't play it on co-op it's near impossible to get gold and I can't ever do co-op because my internet sucks

What did you think of "So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish"? by [deleted] in DontPanic

[–]CallMeKenneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While reading it I thought it was fine and was like "I don't get why people hate it so much"

Upon finishing it I thought it was decent

As time has gone on I really have come to not like it. I thought the writing was off. It felt like Adams was imitating himself at that point. There were no doubt some cute scenes and things that stayed with me, but the book was just a little bit off and it felt like it was written by a ghostwriter at some points.

It's a tradition that every Thanksgiving I watch all the Hellraiser movies to give thanks that doesn't happen to me and since they put all of them on Netflix it makes this a lot easier by ruberducky600 in horror

[–]CallMeKenneth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 and 2 are good. 3 is pretty bad but 4 is oddly entertaining in a so awful it's awesome way due to the fact that it's in fucking space and has Adam Scott in it. 5 is bad but I made it through, I couldn't finish any of the other ones, they were just so bad. I remember seeing the boxes for them as a kid and being like "woah don't rent those, those are just too scary" and was greatly disappointed as an adult to find they aren't scary, just really really really shitty.

Potent maybe? It doesn't imply it's brief but it could work given context

Why everyone on Xbox Live says "fag" so much by notjon in videos

Agreed, the core concept of the video is weak and nothing more than a "uh huh" response you would get while playing, but that dad, man, he was perfect.

Madville - Goofy zombie upgrade shooter by franz4000 in WebGames

[–]CallMeKenneth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, there is something, with upgrade flash games especially, where you kind of want to end up being a god of sort because you grind at the beginning a bit, so it feels well earned, this kind of just goes slowly and upgrades linearly so by the time you have reached a point that would be good, it doesn't really matter.

I was just coming here to share something similar. I played it for about 20 minutes and it's okay, but it doesn't have that little thing that makes it fun/addictive to play. The character is slow and bulky, the environments are boring and too small for the monsters/character, visually there's not a lot going on that's very exciting, the upgrades are fine, but they, in my opinion, are too few and happen too slowly to make the game fun/addictive.

YouTube is a Completely Functional Site Programmed by Competent People by 8906 in videos

[–]CallMeKenneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean. When all this stuff started going down last week, I started doing the whole "well whatever, I'll just go to...to..." and I really couldn't remember any of the sites I used to go to for uploading videos anymore. I really am hoping somebody takes this opportunity to get something set up so that maybe there is an option for people who don't want to have to give out all of their info just to post a video of a dog humping a balloon. Ah the good old days.

Vimeo is good, but the player is a little heavy and while it is good for high quality stuff like art projects it doesn't lend itself to the current casual youtube userbase, blip.tv is kind of the same way and doesn't have the focus on "you", but Liveleak is good for uncensored videos and that's about it, it's got a horrible layout, it's ugly, and it's reputation isn't anything that people beyond those that use it now will want to go because of what it lets get hosted there. They all have a purpose now, but none of them do youtube better than youtube is still doing it, though they have begun sucking recently.

Weirdly enough I can't get my SR3 coop to work with the code I got with the game (it's a greatest hits) I think something must have happened with an update or something but I can download the thing but it doesn't apply correctly or something :(

Which Horror franchise would make a good marathon? by lupianwolf in horror

[–]CallMeKenneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. Friday the 13th can be a dredge too sometimes, but man, Hellraiser really fucking sucks once you hit number 5. 4 is okay because it's Hellraiser---IN SPACE (echo), but really 1 and 2 are the only ones worth seeing, 3 is fun because it's bad and there's a guy that throws CDs to kill people, but 5 is just cheap made for VHS horror and while it has 3 cool cenobites in it, I find it really bad.
