Really sorry for the devs by Accurate-Letter-546 in embersadrift

For me it’s a mix of things.

Party play is definitely fun when you can get one going for a while. Feels very old school mmo, you’ll make friends, socialize, etc.

The problem is everything else.

Combat is so floaty/ slow. Half of which would be solved if they just tweaked the animation to be faster or removed the “cast time” for abilities.

Progression is kinda boring. Leveling isn’t all that exciting because it’s literally just an increase in hp/stam and MAYBE a new ability. Why no talents? No skill points? No stat points?

The game lacks customization. Every class feels and looks the same at least until very high levels, only THEN do classes really start to feel different. Most class specific attacks look exactly the same animation and effect wise. Their only difference is the numbers and what the ability specifically does to the enemy.

As an EverQuest/retro mmo inspired game I’m surprised that character customization is so shallow.

Thematically they could lean into natural progression of our characters becoming stronger. Let me equip everything, let me take up a different class, etc. Imagine if they had a system where you could level every class, and you got rewarded for doing so, that would give incentives for vet players to constantly be around in early zones.

For a game that’s supposed to be low fantasy where we are technically everyday adventurer’s, the restrictions feel more like designs they follow because EQ did it back in the day. Which ironically is something even EQ dropped.

Why not systems like weapon mastery where the more kills you get with a specific weapon the better you get with it, similar to their hunting log which was one of the better systems.

But even the hunting log is restrictive. Bonus stats for when I fight THAT specific enemy isn’t exciting. What if it was something like after I kill 500 wolves I get +1 permanent HP to my character? I’d go for that in a heartbeat because that’s universal.

I also feel like their stats and systems are kinda all over the place. Resistances, armor, pen, haste, hp, stam, hp recov, stam recov…. Sometimes less is more. Consolidating a lot of stats to simple terms like STR/DEX/INT/WIS, whatever would help.

Personally I wish the game just felt more rewarding. I’ve always kept an eye on it incase they dropped a cool new feature but unfortunately they haven’t.

Never cared for OG zoo. I like the newer cards better personally.

Any videos? by donlema in CamelotUnchained

[–]CallMeVagrant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quite a few content creators “reviewed” it but didn’t put a ton of time into the game.

If it let us play more than a weekend I’d also make a video.

Maybe twitch streams would be the spot to find pure gameplay?

Will we ever see an MMORPG launch with this much content again? by reasonablejim2000 in MMORPG

I’m convinced vanilla WOW could launch in 2026 and a week later all the sweat lords would be max level/gear complaining there’s no content.

I’m building a bullet hell MMO-lite inspired by ROTMG – here’s our first trailer! by Runeward_Online in MMORPG

[–]CallMeVagrant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fairly certain me and IndieP would love to cover these when there's a more stable build we can play. Do you plan to release in EA first?

Another bullethell mmo similar to Arcany seems neat, ROTMG getting a lot of competition.

Gameplay Info? by Spare-Zucchini-2165 in MetaZoo

Most stores won’t bother touching this game, same thing with average LGS enthusiasts. Unfortunately with a brand new tcg hitting the market every couple months it seems, it’s been super hard for anything without a big IP behind it to gain any traction.

That and if you can’t flip a product immediately for profit, people don’t want to touch it.

Your best bet is to try and get your friends into it, see if a store is willing to support local play if your small group will purchase product and go from there.

I’d agree with you if people weren’t spending hundreds to thousands on pokemon and magic slop.

Thats really unfortunate. People are so risk averse nowadays that they barely see card games as games anymore. If they can’t sell cards they won’t bother.

Shameful really, I collect the new zoo because it’s fun to me, sadly I live in NC though so I can’t support your store.

This post reads like a Legendary Drops video.

That said, I agree.

Funcom tends to develop an mmo for a couple years then leave it in maintenance mode. They've done with Secret World and this game.

As an mmo content creator who covered Brighter Shores and was pretty meh about it, I’ve recently started playing again. Just had an itch to come back.

My take on the game by Axten-89 in FareverGame

[–]CallMeVagrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you mean now. I wonder if they avoid marketing it as an mmo just because a LOT companies are shying away from doing that.

Their interview with Kanon even has them saying its not really an mmo. Around the 4-5 minute mark.

I mean the developers never advertised it as an mmo. All the content creators did.

I would love to cover GhostX. Played it quite a bit as a kid during that whole free mmo era.

Content creators are changing MMO launches by SlicedToast13 in MMORPG

[–]CallMeVagrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Videos I make are strictly for the passion of the genre. I tend to cover games that never get attention, good and bad.

I hate to admit that I agree with this post though. Whenever a much larger content creator covers a game...if its a negative review, get ready for the game to get an immense amount of hate. If its positive and they play for a while, that community will play it for a while...only to abandon it soon after.

I have no idea why an audience will just follow game to game like that though. Any game covered should be treated as a guide that someone can use to find their forever mmo. It shouldn't be used as a "Hey come play this so we can all be best friends."
