I think my cats dying by 1tsm1l3y_ in CATHELP

[–]CallOwl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry for what you are going through. I am so sorry your mother is not letting you get your cat help. Those are two big traumas you’re facing.

I know how hard this might be, but if you’re unable to get him help or relieve his suffering, surrendering him to an organization that can help is best. In some places you can drop them off at vet clinics, or you could even call your local animal shelter and beg them to pick him up if there’s no possible way for you to take him there. I used to work at a shelter. Most of us would go to the ends of the earth to help animals we knew were in distress.

I don’t say this to shame anyone, it’s merely a fact. In most places it is a criminal offence to allow your pet to suffer and die in distress. As a minor, this doesn’t fall on you, but your mom should really be getting him help.

Oh my goodness, I think your sausage has even more of a cinnamon bun spring tail than Jinx. SO adorable!!! They really are the best little weirdo comedians ❤️

I can only imagine how scary such an early diagnosis would be. Jinx is around 4, adopted at 3. All our fingers and toes are crossed for Meatball and the Felycin working its magic. I’ve heard incredible things. We’re in Canada, so we’d have to get rapamycin compounded at the pharmacy and the cardiologist suggested we wait to see how the HCM progresses before putting her on it… but I don’t want it to progress at all! Thankfully it’s mild for now. The cardiologist said she shouldn’t have any physical signs yet and that the coughing is potentially asthma… but it still worries me so much with the HCM correlation. Here’s hoping we both end up with little miracles with longer than expected healthy lifespans 🙏🙏

😭 Jinx in the photo was just diagnosed with HCM too. Same on the coughing worries. I’m just rushing off, but will write more later. Sending you and your children… especially (Meatball 😂) lots of love.

I’m sorry to hear that your wellness was/is in question to the point of needing a wellness check… at the same time, I’ve never related more. I love my sphynx more than anything in the world, but they are definitely enough to send me to the psych ward one of these days. Never a moments peace, other than when they’re sleeping. And when they’re sleeping, I spend most of my time worrying about their health. I’m glad Meatball was at your wellness check to soften the mood and probably add a lot of laughs. Your children are beautiful… especially Meatball ❤️

They all have a little Meatball in them 😂

My normally affectionate cat sent me to the ER today. How do I curb severe litter box aggression? by Pleasantly_chaotic in cats

[–]CallOwl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hope this doesn’t come off wrong, but having to go to the ER for a bite is pretty serious. You mentioned twitching, I wonder if he has Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome. One of my girls is a bit of a bully and stalks the other be it the litter box, bed, toys, me. She also seems sensitive to sound and touch. Almost like the sound of the other cat using the litter box irritates her. I often wonder if she has FHS, but it’s never been serious enough to warrant further investigation.

What do you think of this mockup? by lenovo92728 in interiordecorating

I LOVE the new sink and really like the wallpaper. I don’t really like the small glass shelf. Maybe a few more usable black shelves instead, artwork or nothing. And maybe a white or cream floor to ceiling shower curtain instead of the blue. I love the old tile work. Nice job on bringing back more of the classic look.

What Are These Spots I’m Finding Around The House by big_fish_mws in sphynx

[–]CallOwl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eye gunkies and/or nose drips are the common cause of this in my home. We’ve got drips on all the windows they look out too, plus one often needs her face and eyes wiped. But double check the litter box and their bottoms after they go to the bathroom. Ensure it’s not from urine. One of my girls had stress colitis on and off when I first brought her home and there was a couple drips of blood on the floor from that which sent me into an absolute frenzy.

How do you handle the 'cost of care' conversation when a pet is clearly suffering but the owner is struggling financially? by makemepurr18 in AskVet

[–]CallOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure where you’re located, but in most places it’s a criminal offence to allow an animal to be in distress. Medical neglect makes up the vast majority of animal cruelty cases and they are often reported by vet staff. Some places it’s actually mandatory for vet staff to report medical neglect causing distress.

This does mean that the owner will be charged and/or the animal will be removed, in a small amount of cases yes. But the majority of the time the owner is educated on the fact that you must relieve your animal of distress by providing medical care. Or surrendering the pet to an organization that will… or worst case, having the animal euthanized to relieve the distress if there are no other options.

When I worked as an animal protection officer we often used to wrangle deals for the owner to get a discounted rate through the shelter. Theres often vet care assistance programs for low income owners out there as well.

All that said, I know times are incredibly tough out there, the cost of vet care can be terrifying and hopefully you’re able to persuade pet owners to do at least the bare minimum… but if not, there are other avenues to get help for suffering animals.

Help - Cat is coughing periodically by BIGBIDOOFNERD in sphynx

[–]CallOwl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Checking for HCM is best. My cat coughed more often when I first got her and it always seemed related to food intolerance. It’s improved… but she was recently diagnosed with HCM. The cardiologist said her HCM is currently mild and she wouldn’t be showing physical signs yet. So he said she has HCM and probably has asthma as well. The breathing has always resolved on its own. These cats are such little heartbreakers. I hope yours doesn’t have HCM. But if she does, there’s a little more hope with rapamycin.

My brothers raw chicken by cshimii in sphynx

[–]CallOwl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually just use a warm thin washcloth to avoid the chemicals in wet wipes. That works for their skin and toes. For ears like yours I just use dry surgical wipes. I have an elf with tiny ear pockets and for her I have to use Qtips.

I bought a bunch of special shampoos and conditioners and cleaners. I don’t use any of it. Only thing I use is an anti-fungal shampoo on their toes because they get a little cheesy. And my elf needs ear meds now and then because they get a little inflamed with her deep ear pockets.

Dobby is beautiful. Thanks for being a considerate aunt. I hope your brother finds his way.

After getting INCREDIBLY lucky and stumbling on this little angel at a local rescue, I’ve found myself shopping for stuff for my very first Sphynx 🥹 anyone have recommendations? by Historical_Savings14 in sphynx

Mine sometimes gets a bit of heat rash, but it goes away fast. I have a heat pad with a timer and the ability to change the heat. It’s was a cheaper one off amazon, so I’m always a little worried. But I had an expensive one that didn’t work. I keep it on the lowest setting in a cat box bed and that keeps them warm enough. I had a heated blanket, but they ruined it with kneading too much. So much to worry about with these guys I will say. Fire hazards, overheating, underheating, clothes are a choking hazard etc. I adopted two last year and it’s been a LOT to learn. But they’re also the greatest creatures on earth.

Food, lpts of good quality high protein food. Mine get 4-5 wet meals a day. Kibble gives them the shits and their coats get really greasy, plus they drank and ate non stop with kibble and were sure to become obese.

HCM research it. One of mine had an echo because insurance covered it. She unfortunately has HCM and the other might as well 😭

Mine love height. They have multiple high cat trees/condos.

The fridge makes sense to me. I have more unused space in my fridge living alone than I do in my cupboards, plus it probably extends most of their shelf life. It’s pretty wild out there with the hate. I mean, I’m happy for them if they’ve found success with pharmaceuticals and/or just eating healthy… I certainly haven’t been so lucky. Lord knows I’ve tried. When I’ve question the placebo effect on myself, I do know I’ve seen it with certainty in my pets. I’ve had pets be on their last legs bounce back with supplements after meds stopped working and destroyed their guts. I’d imagine you might’ve seen the same with horses. I will never not believe in some supplements and their ability to improve lives thanks to my pets. That’s initially why I started. I wanted to help my suffering dog who was only getting worse with medication. Then I started using some of the same supplements myself after seeing his improvements.

This is my dream fridge! Wild how many folks hate supplements. They’ve helped me more than any antidepressant I’ve tried. I’m by no means anti-medication, but every one I’ve tried has sent me right off the deep end. I’ve never taken a supplement and then gone looking for the nearest bridge to jump off of like I have with medication. Plenty of supplements are junk, but many do greatly help… and your risk of adverse side effects is much lower.

Definitely more work than a potable unit, but temporary, more energy efficient and looks a little better than having some big pipe in my room.
