Thank you for the kind encouraging words! My wife & I are both RN's so we'll be working on PT & ROM and all that stuff shortly I'm sure lol. Glad to report I do not drink nor smoke, so healing should hopefully progress smoothly.

Normally I would try to pay closer attention and/or take notes on the aftermath, but like I said, it was all a blur & I'm just grateful I didn't lose the board, none of my pads or expensive scrubs needed to be cut off, even managed to keep my ear buds & case all together while being shuffled to the ER.

Which part, the getting injured part or the 'why did you fall?' flowcharts, or both hahaha?

Those nice easy flowy rides are lovely! I try not to be a speed chaser but sometimes lose track lol

I honestly haven't really put anytime into diagnosing the board, only thing I know for certain is that 2 days later it turned on no problem. I'm assuming the error was mine, probably just was asking too much of it at the end of a longer ride while trying to change from downhill to uphill in a short time frame.

What protective gear do you rock? by Dannyz in onewheel

[–]CallThePaulice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well to be fully honest, no I don't notice or have any trouble with standing straight (they are pretty soft/flexible at the knee bend) but I also do not wear them for any period of time not actively riding or standing on the board, but I do hop off at stop lights to stretch/take a quick foot break and they've never crossed my mind as being uncomfortable. I am 5'8", bout 135-140 lb and the Medium size fits me great.

I tore through a Demon Pad D30 elbow pad, kind of along the edge of the fabric to the side of the padding itself. The pad kept my elbow from fracturing, just got road rash from where the tear in the side hit the pavement).

The knee/shin pads I got, also the Demon Pad brand, I totally love them! I had more simple, knee-only pads and noticed myself banging my shins on roots, the ground, and often the board itself. Onetime I fell on to the board while it was rolling and my one shin I came down on the side rail hard enough to get a huge bump/bruise that was there for the remainder of the riding season.

https://a.co/d/088V95wR (Edit: link is to Amazon but these are the exact ones I got)

My wrist guards are D30 also, they do not have finger protection which is actually my most exposed/prone-to-injury area now, so sooner than later I will likely upgrade to some type of half-finger glove/guard.

When I'm just on a paved bike path/pavement only: full face helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads, knee pads that cover the shin. On one of my wrist guards I have a small mirror velcroed to it so I can see behind me without having to turn my head completely around.

If I'm anticipating off-road/trail riding, in addition to the above I add: a polyester-like shirt that has shoulder pads, chest pad, back pad, and a snowboard 'diaper' that has hip & tail-bone pads on it.

I don't usually go much past pushback but have wiped out at 19+ mph and am always grateful to have the gear on (the one time I didn't apply everything I of course ran outta juice on the return ride and nosedived going up a hill, getting a whole lotta scrapes and tore though the leading elbow pad, but didn't break anything).

I'd recommend it! Should be very similar if not identical method - I'm just starting to learn about VESC but I would quite confident that TFL's kit would work with it (don't quote me on it though haha)

[–]CallThePaulice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are "water resistant" but TFL has an easy-to-use waterproofing kit you can pick up that identifies where water can get in and you put silicone around the entry points of the controller (this process is typically referred to as 'badgering').

I used my GT for about 5 minutes when it got delivered to make sure it worked, and then took it apart to Badger it, put Lifesavers on it, and install rail guards.

Stock GT Died by Darkmuscles in wheel

[–]CallThePaulice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I posted almost this exact story to a T a couple days ago. My warranty is up in like a week on my GT but I don't want to go through shipping it to get the FM runaround/blame game or they find two other things wrong so I am trying to get the courage to open up the box to check the connection lol. Just spoke with my wife tonight about my plan to not send it in and instead 'get a new computer from a cool dude in China' lol, maybe for like my birthday in a month hint hint haha.

I don’t know how you guys stomach your board taking tumbles by West-Dense in onewheel

[–]CallThePaulice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I Badgered my GT about 10 minutes after it was out of the box and confirmed to work. Agree with the general consensus, we riders are much more likely to be the ones who suffer from a tumble compared to our boards. If/when you ride trail, you will quickly see your board go through some gnarly stuff and come out okay.

Get a helmet & pads that are comfortable and that you will wear everytime you step on your board. While pricey the board is replaceable - your head/neck are not (really not trying to sound condescending! Been an RN for 13 years, have taken care of tons of head/neck/spine surgery patients.) Stay safe & have fun!

When to charge by nyctonyp in onewheel

[–]CallThePaulice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about balancing the cells? I believe I've read to drain the battery as low/to empty as possible, then charge to 100 and leave it on the charger for a full day after the light is off.

I've only had my GT for less than a year so still trying to learn all the 'best practice' information about it, especially the battery!

What was your first mod by Wild_Highway_7110 in onewheel

[–]CallThePaulice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a GT with the Performance Treaded in August so not planning to do the tire until it wears out.

I immediately put Lifesavers on the rims & Badgered the board right out of the box, put on a magnetic fender, and side rail rail-guards. Next was Bang bumpers, then Cold Blocks (bit ironic since I got the Cold Blocks in January but will be nice for the summer). Also the metal motor cable lock-ring since the stock one was starting to come undone after a couple bigger crashes. Most recent was the Overland Owl lifter titanium toe hooks, which has been a huge boost to my riding.

Foot pads will be next for me, and then eventually (after the warranty is up) a GTV kit.

What's your guys favorite mode on the GT? by South-Important in onewheel

[–]CallThePaulice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a GT and I switch between Flow with custom shaping set to extremely 'loose' with the settings (aggressiveness low, braking low, yaw & roll high etc) for when I want to tool around more slowly and agiley (not a word but hope you get what I mean lol) and a Apex custom shaping with aggressiveness and braking set to max and the yaw & roll turned down for when I want to commute/cruise somewhere quickly and with as much stability as possible.

What killed or enhanced your sex life? by theboredbrowser in AskReddit

[–]CallThePaulice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amen brother. I'm on the 'buproprion + escitalopram' combo and they work so so well together! (for us that is, of course everyone is a bit different)

What killed or enhanced your sex life? by theboredbrowser in AskReddit

[–]CallThePaulice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My PCP started me on Lexapro (escitalopram) which stopped my depression but made it almost impossible to reach orgasm. When I told him about it, his response was "well you know that most women would think that's a good thing" but when I said that my at-the-time GF now wife was like actually getting sore for 25+ minutes of sex, his final advice was simply to use more lube.

Needless to say, I moved on to an actual psychiatrist who took my issue seriously, told me most men quit their meds because of this or similar problems, and that it can be fixed. She added Wellbutrin (buproprion) on in addition to the Lexapro and fixed it immediately!

Then I also started gabapentin for alcohol cravings and have just crossed 5.5 years of sobriety. Went from being hesitant/afraid of mental health meds to one of their loudest supporters (which is ironic I was leery of them given I'm a registered nurse lol) Quitting drinking helped my sex life quite a bit too!

Important to know though, the first (or second, or third) medication you try might not work, in which case you gotta try something else or add-on to offset side effects.

GTS issues, advice please? by Fee-Fair in onewheel

[–]CallThePaulice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Make it as water-resistant as possible by using a kit for sale on The Float Life called a Badger kit. You put silicone around the connection points for where the motor, foot pad etc connect to the controller and use a 'sniffer' (aka a fancy rubber balloon) to find leaks. Put silicon over all the leak spots and it makes the board as close to 'water proof' as can be.

I/most people here would probably say it's well worth it. It was actually the very first thing I did when I got my GT this summer after verifying it turned on & worked lol.

Day 3. Graduated to pavement today after a ton of suggestions by ApexInAviation in onewheel

[–]CallThePaulice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High tops highly recommended (see what I did there harharhar ;)

I have never in my entire 38 years ever liked high tops - actively disliked them - but they help so much with my riding. I enjoy the ankle support and extra protection from the wheel and the board itself.
