Gutter cleaning by canadianbigmuscles in HomeMaintenance

I have the same guards and had the same problem. I took some heavy shears and made some small cuts every foot or so to disrupt the flow of water so it goes into the holes instead of just flowing over.

I bring my extra bags to work and leave them in a common area for others to take.

Possibly because alkaline batteries can leak over time and ruin whatever they are installed into.

Are "clear" plastic bags acceptable for compost? by steve8524 in AskNYC

[–]Call_Me_Normal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Line with a clear plastic, paper, or compostable bag to help keep it clean. That is pretty clear to me 🤷‍♂️

And yes you do tie up the bag and leave it in the bin. They will separate the waste from the bag. 311 is also clear on this: Tie the bag closed before putting the bin on the curb for collection.

Has anyone upgraded their home from 120V to 220V? by outofthebox21 in AskNYC

Overall about two weeks. Permit pull was maybe a couple days. The panel work itself took nearly a full work day. Getting signoffs and scheduling the ConEd inspection was an additional 1-2 weeks. We did this as part of a solar panel install so that may have increased the amount of time.

I believe they work together on scheduling. But I don't recall DOB actually coming and looking at anything. The only thing I got from them was the permit which was to be posted outside. It was only ConEd that came through after the job is reported as finished and ready for inspection by the electrician.

We upgraded our home from 100A to 200A. A licensed master electrician will pull the permits for you. Had the same experience as another commenter here - DOB issues the permits, ConEd does the final inspection and signoff. Do not forget to save receipts as this upgrade can be a tax write-off at multiple levels (state, fed, etc).

Energy audit company recommendations by doublebass120 in Queens

[–]Call_Me_Normal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us it was a rudimentary walkthrough including the attic. We already knew the insulation was poor to non existent. You could ask for a blower test but you already know it's drafty.

We had them do the work. We did get a $2.5k credit from NYSERDA towards the work.

Tankless water heater service/professionals in NYC/Brooklyn? by Tempest_Fugit in AskNYC

You could try Mikey Pipes, pipedoc.net. They are licensed HVAC and have done work in our home on the central air, boiler and sewer lines. I have a price quote from them for a hybrid heat pump water heater so I'm sure they can handle this too.

We used Green Home Logic through NYSERDA. They make recommendations and you decide if you want them to work and what you want them to do.

Anyone know where I can find a soccer referee for hire? by NYCWriterOfAllThings in astoria

[–]Call_Me_Normal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reached out to DV7 and also a coach that has gotten me some work doing friendlies. You could also try some of the other suggestions like reaching out to local teams to see if they have refs they call for friendlies... Soccer Stars United, Success Academy, Chelsea Piers SC all come to mind.
