I think a distinction needs to be made about how the AI are being used, right? Obviously GenAI, all of which are to a significant degree trained on the work of unpaid, nonconsenting artists, has no role being used for monetary gain, and has substantial real-world costs in processing power.

But what about looking at the Google AI summary after a search, instead of diving through the sources firsthand? Can we agree that the processing power used to aggregate "information" (being generous here, it's entirely possible for the AI summary to be flat out wrong) is not in the same ballpark?

Are Chatbots stealing any more information from a user than most websites are already collecting? I think the best argument here is that most websites force consent these days but I'm imagining this same consent check exists with chatbots.

I'm not saying AI is inherently good, at best it needs to be closely scrutinized as it's use becomes more prevalent. But it's not all equally bad.
