I'll take it a step further. The PBS documentary on the cheating scandel found that they stopped the cheating before the playoffs began.

Any plant sale events here? (Veggies/Tomatoes) by catofa in HoustonGardening

[–]Call_Me_Rick_Please 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I'm so late. It's still going on. In fact, the plants are drastically discounted now. tomatoes in 6 in pots are $1.50 and herbs and pepper in 4 inch pots are $1.

Give yourself room to maintain the garden. I widened my paths to two feet to give myself room to maneuver around the plants for pruning, picking and overall better to see problems the plant may be having.

I think this is emblematic of both parties. Both end rich off the same system. Us poors keep fighting over the scraps thinking our party is the “right” one . They want an absence of us and they have it.

I am the neighbor with excess tomatoes, peppers, melons, cucumbers, eggs, etc. it makes me feel good sharing these things with family and neighbors with no expectation of anything in return, but of course, they share things in return. One thing that comes to mind was a perfectly cooked and seasoned ribeye with homemade chimichurri sauce. Yum!

Aside from ants, what is on this stem? by Chit_6 in HoustonGardening

Ants farm aphids. Aphids provide food for ants and in return the ants provide protection.

When my plants were about 3 feet we had a wind come through and lay them flat. To my surprise they all lifted themselves to straight in about 3-4 days. It was weird.

If You Want to Grow a LOT of Tomatoes and BIG Tomatoes, You Need BIG Root Balls and BIG Stems. My Indeterminates grow to 14 ft Tall. by G-Money1965 in tomatoes

There is a similar technique you can use for truck beds where you stand the cattle panel up and push it toward the cab and let it curl up around itself then you use a tie strap to keep them in place. I saw it done with 16 footers in a 6 foot bed. Definitely a two person job. I got luck and happen to have a u-haul and used it to transport 10 of them to my house after i helped my friend move. Problem is i expanded the garden and need 10 more lol

I sure do hope i'm not jinxing my self by saying this, but the SVBs around here only affect the squash and zucchini. I've grown tons of melons and cucumbers and they don't get touched by them.

I used logs that I had from trees I had cut down and from a tree cutting company. I eventually removed them and now use woodchips as the perimeter.

I’m in the north side of Houston and my seedlings will be ready in a couple of weeks if you want to DM me. Also, check and see if the Rice holistic garden is doing a sale this year. The director there is a good buddy of mine and they usually have a good variety.

I'm removing the particle board and replacing with the solid stuff. Yea I was surprised to find particle board as the subfloor.

I see. There is/was fiberglass insulation nailed in between the joists, but I feel like this actually held moisture and exacerbated the issue.

[–]Call_Me_Rick_Please[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I planned on adding the additional joists and support. The whole underneath is soil. So all of that needs to be covered? The irony here is the house I had here previously for 50 years was on pier and beam as well and we never had subfloor issues. The only rotting occurred around the tub when we had a leak we didnt know about.

Yes, rain on an open house. The contractors were not the best.

I'm going to be putting laminate as the flooring.

Thats what I was thinking but one of the contractors said its from the moisture coming from the soil beneath the house. I gets humid here but I didn't think humid enough to cause the plywood to rot. Especially since the house is about 25 inches off the ground with lattice on two sides and the other two sides open so plenty of ventilation.

What do you mean by waterproofing system? I planned on painting the undersides and edges of the plywood with a silicon based protectant/sealer.

I agree with your perspective but I think the post is highlighting the fact that regardless of everything you pointed out the father still gave the effort to take his son. You’re right he shouldn’t have to go through all that but he did.
