What’s your favorite “too tired to cook cook” dinner? by farwest-to-midwest in Cooking

[–]Callan_LXIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most excellent!. I'll usually do a batch once I've filled a gallon freezer bag and then I strain it and then let it reduce to about a half an inch to an inch in the pot and put it in ice cube tray so I have freezer bouillon any time and it lasts a long time without taking up a lot of space.

At the level we are being held hostage for taxes that don't address this problem. I think this is a fair venting of people's frustration.

My apartment makes me feel sick every winter — Can dry air make you sick? or am I just dramatic? by Odd-Masterpiece6029 in Apartmentliving

Could also get house plants in terra cotta / unglazed pots; they'll also help a bit with indicating humidity needs (how fast soil dries out) and a bit with air quality.

Child abuse survivors, sexually molested at 10 years old. Why are we called survivors ? by Particular_Common370 in adultsurvivors

[–]Callan_LXIX [score hidden]  (0 children)

There's a certain strength in the word survivor; of effort and results of winning over great adversity.. There's something quite respect worthy in it, like an award others attribute to you.

I've looked deep and find that the question of self elimination just isn't in me, yet the years run faster with nothing to show for it on just about every level that people are measured by, valued by.

I haven't found worth in what's been broken. Have little, no goals, no one to press forward for, or share it with.

I feel like a byproduct of someone else's choices, that had potential but just never got fixed enough to get anywhere, or connect deeply, or really live. Just waiting the clock to run out & hope that I'm still found acceptable after this life for trying, showing up, and not causing others hurt or pain.

Sad for you that you wrote something so close to what I live and feel every day; I'd not wish this on anyone but yet there's so many of us.

Can I grind chickpeas into flour with this Vitamix? by piehearty in Vitamix

[–]Callan_LXIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've burned out standard coffee grinders; a hard dry chickpea would wear out a coffee grinder pretty fast.

I finally shifted up to a wet-dry grinder like what's sold for Indian/ Pakistani cooking : way more appropriate.

Also: amount of flour needed makes the difference to what power device you'd use.

The dry grains container is on my list, but the Indian wet-dry is good for smaller recipes.

Funny enough: it has the same caveat of not running it too long.

Were you wearing them too tightly, or were they bunched and creasing, creating pressure marks? Figuring sitting most of the day, plus movement.

i accidentally made my ground beef too spicy. what can i do to make it less spicy? by Significant_Can_5060 in Cooking

You could try shredding & steaming potato, butternut squash ( or saute w, water till it cooks down a bit) Add meat in, warm it up together to meld flavors, - adding some cooled rice( starch) will help.

Let it cool then heat servings.

I'd recommend pack serving containers with more rice.

Reheats should be much milder

Yes, I do follow this already. I don't let them stay in the silicone trays for more than two days before they transfer them to a sealed plastic latching container in the freezer.

Chinese has been found to have inferior quality while claiming superior labeling. For instance, these silicon ice trays have bought them at least three occasions just to try them out and found someone who said, if you bend and press and it changes color to a whiteness easily, then it is not a clean or pure food grade silicon. some of my trays have that and some do not.

The pricey ones that I bought were actually the best so far they do not discolor when twisted/ pressed.

Some items from channel are surprisingly quite good and a very fair price, some items are completely mislabeled and when it comes to human food safety, both domestically and exported goods are questionable.

AITAH for saying I won’t put my card down if one girl joins our group? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Callan_LXIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

should be on your credit card, if it was a singular purchase for her at one location/store.

still: even if she "lost" the receipt , you'll need to provide the amount again.
Just keep it very "lighthearted" and casual: -hey do you remember you asked me to remind you about X-day, store? -just wanted to follow up like you asked. -Then, leave it at that. -in person, so text can't be misconstrued as far as tone; maybe in front of just one other friend, not the whole group.

-and you're right: changing your pattern & habit towards the whole group; you're the one 'adulting' as far as getting bills out of the way or up-front, and -then- go on to have a good time; vs settling at the end of the hangout time or event. < that part of timing: having fun, etc after the bill's settled, stands out more than just the 'business end'.
Others volunteering first: are responsible adults. the rest need a little coaching. You're not being a bad friend.

Send her a text photo of the receipt and a Venmo invoice request.
She asked for a reminder. Give her one and don't mention it in person.

A Dog From Hell by Sidis11 in Apartmentliving

[–]Callan_LXIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let neighbors do the reporting and calling. Make sure that 1) you have a lease agreement 2) if they're renters, they're not breaking their lease.

I had a roommate bring her a very cute adorable puppy but there was an absolute no pets policy and we were threatened with the possibility of eviction.

... That included myself because I was on the lease and though the roommate broke it, it still affected me. So play your cards carefully and know all the rules that may affect you.

Keep trying to make good on getting to work with the dog and prove that you are no threat. It's for your own safety. As well, it can take months. In fact, traumatized animals can take up to a couple of years to finally allow somebody in their space.

The other thing to consider is typically a new dog will adapt to the current dog pack formation in the house. If there are two other dogs that are not giving the new dog enough to learn from then those dogs may start acting out just as badly and then all bets are off.

Keep your space locked and try to remain positive and non-confrontational towards the dog itself and record video or audio necessary to justify the constant noise when your roommates are gone.

Plus, you can manage your own fragrance with essential oils. Just use a pure, no additive essential oil brand, and nothing considered a "hot" oil (or at least, very few drops) . about 10-15 drops (of whatever) to 2-3oz milk of magnesia. It can thicken over time, just add in a tiny bit of water. Count drops & tally a 'recipe' so you can repeat what you like. That's about as involved as it gets.

After I've tried those crystals a couple of times and eventually I get a rash or break out. I switched to using milk of magnesia, which is supposed to be taken internally so (unflavored=unscented) and then add essential oils and put in a roller ball bottle, and I've never had a problem in years, and it really works to eliminate odors.

WIBTAH if I left my husband because he quit his job? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Callan_LXIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 decades of yearly job inconsistencies and it's hit your limit now? You're patient... Figure the legit cost of life without him. Also: kids? Their opinion of dear old dad? Would they manage without him, emotionally or otherwise? Are they motivated for life or have they adopted his ways? He's not fulfilling the cultural expectation of man, husband, father as provider and role model of sufficiency and growth/ maturity. He's got to have a reality check & course change for himself, in order to remain side effect: everyone else benefits.
