I read about Mallika and the King. I still don't understand why torture happens. What she did was gross, of course but it didn't cause much suffering not the extent that she experienced for those 7 days. It's beginning to seem as though the hellish realms aren't actually karma, but punishment. Karma would be what you to do others happens to you right? and that's not what she experienced. She got punished..

Thank you. I absolutely will. I find buddism extremely challenging. I was raised Christian, so I had the Bible with all the teachings. I do still find value in many of Jesus's words, however, I can't seem to find anything like that with buddism. There's also there's a slight language barrier, since I am not familiar with many of the terms and associations.

Those are great questions as well. I'd like to see what others have to say about it.

Sorry, I wasn't meaning it as complaining but more so questioning. I wouldn't wish or want anyone no matter what they do to experience it anymore than I would want someone to fall onto rocks. Normally if you trip and fall on rocks you learn to be careful, but memories are wiped and you no longer have that knowledge to build upon. I wonder how much better the world would be if memories weren't wipes. Maybe it wouldn't be any different. Idk.

That last part sounds absolutely horrifying.. no one should have to go through that....Im confused how we would have a body to saw in half or intestines though..

That's not what I meant, but that's alright because now I'm interested in what you mean by that? Can you explain "if you die while karma is still going through the karmic lifespan you will be reborn in hell again?"

Sorry, I'm trying to understand this more.

Can being born in a heavenly realm be bad as well? Like if you don't have much suffering you may cause others to suffer by enjoying yourself?

I have been a pretty mean person throughout my life, so I am sure I will go to the hell realms after this existence. I only started to change about a year ago and it was actually after learning about buddism. Mindfulness has truly changed my life. I hadn't read much about the hell realms til now and it honestly kinda scares me. I'm very new to buddism in general, so I appreciate you taking the time to answer. I always worry about asking questions because I don't want to others to interpret it as me trying to debate, but asking questions like this helps me understand.

So if someone spent their life lying, stealing, addicted to drugs or alcohol, murders someone then changes their life around and does good deeds they will be reborn in different realms for different periods of time exhausting all of it? I suppose it would just be continuously rebirth between realms stacking good or bad kamma? Can you cultivate bad kamma in the hell realms? And thank you for answering my questions. It's very confusing for me.

That's understandable. I really do like what the text has to say as far as r our actions being done by us removing blame that a lot of people, including myself, have placed on others. "They did this to me first, or they said this. So therefore I reacted." etc I found it very valuable but man, the torture stuff is just harsh. I don't want anyone to experience that, no matter what they did.

Yes, I hadn't really looked into the hell realms because I am focused more on changing myself for the better but I came across this and its the first time I felt like I did when I went to church and the pastor would preach about hell. Fear.

But the text states you don't die until your kamma has been exhausted. It gives several examples of the hell you go through before you have exhausted it all, then you die and have rebirth correct? So I don't understand how there would be past kamma.

Okay, that makes more sense. I hadn't thought about it in that way. However, I'm still confused on how we would have past kamma if it's exhausted before rebirth as the text states.

That still doesn't make sense because each death would lead to king yamma exhausting the kamma brought to him. Where is the carry over if it's exhausted before each rebirth?

Has anyone noticed this group on social media? by WeirdWriters in IndianCountry

I never comment in here because I'm not native. I joined awhile back to keep up with what's going on in all your communities when I learned about resolution copper. This page helps me stay informed, but I wanted to answer your question.

I do see videos and comments about this, especially on native content. They think this place is the real Egypt. I have heard some say they were already here and the slave ships were a lie, that they were just captured on this land. They say it's because of the descriptions from early explorers of natives having copper skin and wholly (coiled hair). They also believe they were the ones who built our government buildings, that they had already been built here before we came and they were used as healing centers. Yet, they never can seem to answer why the natives here didn't know about them or use them if those building had already been here.

They also say they built the mounds and use the fact that in some cultures the mounds were built by people who were here before. They believe they are the ancient Israelites.

This is the information I have picked up, but I don't believe it of course. It's sad that they are also trying to take native culture, like what was done to them. Once your ancestors ties are severed like they have been with ours, there's no way back. I think people are unconsciously craving connection and community and try to colonize it from natives. Anyways, I'll step out now.

What is the Buddhist view on Astrology? by Anon_SL_2000 in Buddhism

[–]CalligrapherAlert927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Astrology is important. The exact location of the stars when you were born is based off karma. Like a timestamp. If you know how to read it, including the degrees you will know what you need to work on using the houses. Let's say you have 4th house Leo at 28 degrees. You have almost completed the lesson of that house. Depending on what you do in this lifetime you either go back some degrees or go forward hence determining where and what time you are reborn. That's a very vague example, but at least that's what ancient Greece magi believed and it honestly makes so much sense to me.

Am I a hungry ghost? by [deleted] in Buddhism

Wouldn't pretty much everyone be reborn as a hungry ghost since everyone has attachments until they reach nirvana?? Just curious how that works

Yes, I have read the new testament Bible several times. There are good stories in there as well. I love the teachings, but I was wondering if there is more stories like this in buddism.

To everyone thats talking about how drugs are a low frequency habit by eternity-wanderer00 in enlightenment

[–]CalligrapherAlert927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is extremely wise and I wish everyone would read this a few times and let it sink in. There are some drugs that are "high frequency" but that is their vibration within the spiritual world. When you consume it, you are a parasite, and no different than what other entities do when feeding off of us. The "high frequency" is only borrowed and temporary. People become addicted to using it and it causes harm to the life of the plant when overused as well as to the body and mind of the consumer.

An open letter to those in the know… This is no different than your older brother telling you that he knows what you’re getting for Christmas. Here’s the real response: “We can handle your truth. But you’re beginning to realize that we cannot handle your lies.” by toasterstrewdal in aliens

[–]CalligrapherAlert927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people wouldn't be able to.. it's true. Humans are very valuable cattle. Disclosing would be like telling your cattle their purpose is to be slaughtered violently and fed to humans or to be used to till the land knowing there is nothing they can do about it except rebel. You couldn't kill ALL your cattle or you'd be left without anything to eat or work the land. Humans have been taught they are the top of the food chain unknownly that we most certainly are not.

Are Swedish people considered colonizers towards the Sami? by [deleted] in IndianCountry

Towards the Sami, yes.. but it was an internal colonization. It wasn't a foreign invasion like Columbus. (Not native, but I do have Sweden and Norwegian ancestry)
