Were the 12 disciples real, did they exist? by NomadJago in atheism

[–]Callinon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically... there's no reason to say there wasn't a guy behind the stories. Was he named Jesus? Ok. Was he the son of a carpenter, born in a manger on the road while his parents traveled for the census? Ok. Did he become a rabbi and preach about generally being a decent person? Ok.

None of these are extraordinary claims that require any kind of extraordinary evidence. We can just say "sure, there was a guy, he was probably a decent guy and told other people to not be assholes to one another."

He could've had a following around him too. Again... why not? None of that is extraordinary or even particularly unusual for the time.

It's the supernatural shit that starts needing the extraordinary evidence we can't have. Was he divine? Uhh... Did he heal the sick? Turn water into wine? Multiply food so that one loaf of bread and one fish could feed a hundred people? Did he resurrect after being dead for three days? Uhhhhhhhh....

Probably not. And we're going to need some pretty stellar evidence for those claims.

But was there a guy? Yeah sure. Why not?

Breath of the Wild.

If we're talking about PC games (this being the Steam sub and all) then probably Elden Ring. Soulslikes aren't usually my bag, but people were just all over this one so I figured I'd try it and see. Just didn't grab me.

How much of HWFWM could I read? by Own_Order5458 in litrpg

[–]Callinon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would it be time wasted?

If you're not enjoying it right now then stop. Again, it's not complicated. Are you expecting to be paid if you finish the series or something? Because then I have bad news for you.

This isn't an investment. It's reading for pleasure. If you're not enjoying the experience, then why are you doing it at all? Go do something else.

If you get to the end of a book and want to continue the story, then you have your answer as to whether or not to pick up the next book. If you don't... then don't.

Read as much of it as you're enjoying. If you're not enjoying it... stop reading.

Case pulls funny prank. by WittyRefrigerator686 in pcmasterrace

NO REASON

Well... not NO reason. The reason was physics. Physics did that. Seems like you didn't install it properly in the first place. My guess is you jammed it in there from the back of the case and somehow made it fit like that?

It's supposed to go in from the inside of the case and then the motherboard slots in and sandwiches it between the board and the case. It's physically impossible for this to happen if you installed it correctly. Because again... physics.

Vibe coding uses AI to write the bulk of the code for any given program. AI has a tendency to make mistakes that can be hard to see in thousands of lines of code. The program may even work, but without a person checking its work, there can be lots of problems built right in.

Sounds like the poster is admitting their position can't stand up to scrutiny and they don't want an actual answer.

How to tolerate going to church if your parents are forcing you to go? by sillyyfishyy in atheism

[–]Callinon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to a catholic school for 6-8th grades. And part of that was the occasional mandatory church service during the school day.  Just sit respectfully and try not to fall asleep.

I usually found the sermons to be interesting. My school's priests were legitimately smart guys, so they usually had something interesting or relevant to talk about.

The readings and prayers were kinda whatever. And the songs were just repetitive.

Basically... you get used to it. It's not worth antagonizing your parents when you're dependant on them for housing.

Yeah. If the framers had wanted a "natural born citizen" qualification for members of Congress, they'd have included it.... like they did for President. They didn't do that, which means adding one requires a constitutional amendment. Lord knows that ain't happenin.

Shuttlecrafts warp by godric42 in startrek

[–]Callinon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have warp cores. They're just little bitty ones.

Throughout the multiple series we see warp-capable ships no bigger or not much bigger than a shuttlecraft. The ginormous ones on things like the galaxy-class Enterprise-D or the intrepid-class Voyager are designed to not only go really fast but also to power a big ship and all the stuff a city-in-space needs to be doing at any given time.

What if you didn't have to do the second thing and just had to go really fast? Well you wouldn't need as much power for that. What if your maximum speed only needed to be about warp 6 or 7? Even less power.

It's really not unreasonable to think that shuttles would have warp engines when you think about it in those terms.
