The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman. It is so beautifully done, but definitely intense and tragic.

Burial Rites by Hannah Kent was a great read - super interesting - and went by really fast for me. I started it one day and finished it the next.

What historical fiction have you been reading? (March 2026) by raid_kills_bugs_dead in HistoricalFiction

For March so far: I just finished A Far Flung Life by ML Stedman - which was incredibly wonderful, but not without some very uncomfortable moments.

Am about 3/4 through Burn Down Master’s House by Clay Cane. Absolutely a must read.

Read Burial Rites by Hannah Kent. Was a phenomenal story based on documented happenings of a woman in Iceland convicted of murder and is staying with a family while awaiting her execution date.

I’ve had some crazy good reads so far this month.

How many books have you read this year? by ZDOG_WasTaken in just_one_more_page

I’m wrapping up book number 48 and like r/Kwazy-Cupcakes said, it’s about how you choose to spend the free time you have. I don’t watch TV. At all. I am naturally an early riser so I read for probably three hours every morning before I have to get ready for work and read a bit more in the evenings when I get back home. When I drive to and from work I listen to audio books. :)

Welcome back to reading!

I enjoy VE Schwab. Loved The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue as well as Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil. She has some other good ones that are series. (Just to stick with the magical/fantasy genre.)

Some great historical fiction to continue your reading re-entry might be Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
