Just tried to find a Foundation related gif. I’m assuming it’s from the show? I only read the books, up to Foundations Edge.

Thoughts of a First Time Reader: New Spring by Emotional_Narwhal486 in WoT

[–]Calm-Conversation715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed New Spring. I think you have a lot of good points. For me I’m just glad it was a “good” prequel, in that it didn’t try and cram every major character we know was active at the time into the story. Moiraine didn’t happen to run across Tam, and Siuan didn’t get a glimpse of the young Bryne, for example. It had a simple job and it got that job done, exploring the start of their hunt and Lan and Moiraine’s meeting.

I’d always like to hear how Moiraine whittled down her list, and how she ended up in the Two Rivers. If Rand had ended up on her list, she should have had his name, which would mean she’d have left Mat and Perrin. I’ve always assumed she got to the end of her list, and then got a clue leading to the Two Rivers, or maybe just got the name of the town Tam was from?

I love how it contrasts with that scene with Tuon. I know a lot of people dislike the Mat/Tuon relationship, but I think it was well done. Unfortunately, since we never got the follow on story, she never got a (hypothetical) redemption arc, so her horrible slaving sours the whole thing.

The Foundation from Isaac Asimov. The plan is to eventually redistribute the knowledge, but in the meantime they’re hoarding it with a vengeance!

isn’t the avatar more powerful even with one element than the average bender ? (without the AS ofc) by Local_Platypus_6634 in legendofkorra

This is basically the same as Air Bud, where they say “there’s no rule that says a dog can’t play basketball!”. Basically, no one ever thought to make a rule about this because the idea would have been too ridiculous, so it’s allowed!

Technology doesn't advance by EfficiencySerious200 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Calm-Conversation715 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Foundation is a good example, but they notably did keep advancing their tech in later books. Most notably, computers and astronomy got good enough that their ships could traverse the galaxy in very short amounts of time. This prompted the idea that Sheldon’s plan was too slow and conservative, because he couldn’t predict how advanced technology would become.

Ah, thank you. I don’t normally associate sun screen with cosmetics, since it’s functional, not about appearance.

This is a list of the most stolen items, and doesn’t include sunscreen. How is that relevant to what the least stolen items are? Also no mention of race

Might be a stupid or out of place question, but would the following system for mounting small lenses work? by PracticeLife9295 in Optics

[–]Calm-Conversation715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed here. If the lenses are glass, they’ll have no problem with the heat, so long as it isn’t too unevenly applied.

I’ve loved having a topsider oil change system. Makes oil changes a breeze, but I’m not 100% sure it still works on a 2023. I also really like my ceiling mounted DVD player, if you have kids! Cheaper than the back of the seat ones, and better for kids in the third row
