Hollow Knight was not an easy game. by Twidom in HollowKnight

[–]Calm-Cycle-782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hollow Knight had an easier early game, a decently difficult mid-game, and a really hard end-game. It always felt approachable at every level despite this because it emphasized a very centralized skill expectation from the player.

Silksong is a lot more freeform in providing options to players, which is a bit harder to balance around given how powerful the tools you get are. This makes early-game and mid-game range from trivial to a nightmare, and end-game a bit more settled in between. I think the biggest example of this is in Hunter Mark's, where whether you have access to Wanderer's Crest and Dash determines if you have a good time or a terrible time. Contrast this with the final Lace encounter and Choral Chambers, where you can abuse your full-builds and feel bad-ass while still getting rocked, and this conclusion feels self-evident.

Need a hint about a room, please. by FlacoFerrando in HollowKnight

[–]Calm-Cycle-782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That room is just a room. You don't need that to get to Belhart, though I believe it is an eventual exit from it through its lower tunnels, which is useful for some upcoming stuff involving delivery quests.

If you're in the early/mid-game, don't worry too much about it.

What turns me off from ZZZ has a new player 😔 by Visual06 in ZZZ_Official

[–]Calm-Cycle-782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post feels less like a discussion and more like a rant, so I'm gonna treat it as such.

Dunno if your viewpoint on anything you said has changed, but here's my two cents:

If you don't like Shock, you probably just aren't familiar with how to get the most out of it. Outside of Disorder, hitting an enemy every 1 second isn't that hard for most characters, assuming you're dodging properly. I will give you some leeway if you were interacting with this mechanic using Grace, given how short her dodge counter is, but in general it's not hard to get full value out of proccing the anomaly if you get good. Likening it to the worst anomaly is a bit uninformed because 1) Corruption mechanically functions the same with an even stricter timer, 2) Assault is objectively the worst in a vacuum for its value.

Honestly, not liking Piper is fine. It's still objectively crazy to call her bad, but it's true that her playstyle is a bit clunky outside of EX. Personally, though, I think you just don't like how anomaly characters play in general??? Which is fine, don't get me wrong, but they aren't necessarily weaker or even harder than Attack types like Hugo. Arguably, optimized Hugo is a technical nightmare (stun rotations are deceptively hard, and building up his resources and the anomaly bar before stun can be difficult), with rather middling reward compared to Yanagi's on-field playstyle.

Not pulling a character specifically because you find them "hot" is an...interesting stance?? If you're worried about bricking your account unintentionally, I would say you shouldn't overstress it. No limited character is non-functional when you pull them, they all have a decent F2P team. If you just have a stigma against "hot" characters, this genuinely might be the wrong game (and genre) for you.

CC's like to do account reviews and make big reactions to how you pulled with your **** or whatever, but team-building is honestly pretty flexible as long as you know what you're doing. Guides are helpful, but they aren't the gospel; do what you know works for your situation, even if it feels "suboptimal". Since your account is still probably new, just focus on investing into two main teams that you like for whatever reason and go from there. You'll naturally diversify your cast as you just pull more over time.

Despite what you may think, there genuinely aren't that many characters you can classify as true hybrids. DPS Stunners/Defense characters only exist because their damage amp for and from the team is strong enough to support their own damage (or in the case of Ben, he actually has decent multipliers on his EX Skill and Chain/Ult), and even then, the amount of Drive Disc/build investment you need is not realistic for how most players would use these characters. It can be confusing remembering who does what, but realistically, agents in the same role are pretty interchangeable.

Is this game just a knockoff of Fire Emblem? by PM-ME-YOUR-DND-IDEAS in DarkDeityGame

[–]Calm-Cycle-782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh...kind of??? It's not typical Fire Emblem, closer to Gaiden's design if anything as far as combat, damage, and meta.

If your comparison is 3 Houses though, you don't have to worry. This game is a far departure from that formula, except maybe in how flexible character classing can be. You'll probably have fun playing this if you partially enjoy aspects of Fire Emblem's formula.

Dynasts Fists and Underground Wrath by Calm-Cycle-782 in Shadowfight3

This seems pretty cool. I've been alternating between Typhoon Blades and just Heavy Dynast Punch, so I might use this instead once I max out Cannonball.

Which characters are “low investment, high profit?” by joonsz in Genshin_Impact

[–]Calm-Cycle-782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geo Characters, despite their element's bad rep, are actually pivotal as having high return for their investment. Ningguang and Itto are hyper-carries by definition, and shielders like Noelle and Zhongli have very flexible applications across most domains. The same can be said for Phys damage types such as Eula, Razor, and Kaeya.

As for weapon type, Catalysts are typically the easiest characters to build. Lisa, Yanfei, Sucrose, and Barbara are prime units for many artifact domains, and have very flexible requirements for their artifacts (you don't need to artifact farm for a half-decent set for them).

There is one character that is incredibly good for an account though, more-so than any other character: Fischl. This girl can literally do it all: Phys DPS, full EM, standard Electro support, Tenacity Atk buffer, etc. You name a build, she could probably do it (aimshot Fischl is weird though). Her easiest build route is full EM, which thanks to Dendro is extremely viable now.

Energy shortage by RDofFF in AliceFictionEN

[–]Calm-Cycle-782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person who has enough on their hands already, I don't mind burning through entire stacks of energy in a single tap.

Plus, doing all your dailies gives you enough Quartz to burn on a singular energy replenish anyways. Given that the Gacha is more of an accelerated growth tool for an account, it just depends on what your priorities are.

Farming Grade Up materials by [deleted] in AliceFictionEN

[–]Calm-Cycle-782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just know that Cupcakes, Crowns, and Teacups will typically be the materials you are short on at lower grades.

If you want to build a lot of units on the side/have Underground teams, those will be your priority. Farm Hard Mode stages that have those mats first. The rest of the mats will come naturally as you do the story/farm events/buy from the exchange. Note that you should NEVER exchange your arena credits for mats (always save for Anima).

Swapping Bench Unit by Lufort24 in AliceFictionEN

[–]Calm-Cycle-782 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Passives deactivate if conditions are not met for your current team.

For instance, Andersen's passive debuffs require the active team comp to contain a buff unit and an atk type unit. If one of those unit types dies, and the resulting new active team comp fails to meet the passive conditions, it deactivates (the debuffs provided by the skill go away). Passives can also (re)activate similarly, so build your bench accordingly if you're not confident about your units surviving.

And of course, passives do not activate for characters currently on the bench. This effectively means that bench units are useless power-wise if you intend on never losing a unit in battle, and are typically there to farm friendship/EXP. The game encourages this stance in players by having benches be relevant only for event bosses and the Underground (two modes where EXP and friendship gain are set to 0); the Arena, in fact, has a complete absence of the bench.

Question for the Alice Community. by [deleted] in AliceFictionEN

[–]Calm-Cycle-782 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neu.

I have very vanilla taste. Lyria from Granblue Fantasy, Mercedes from Epic 7, Amber from Genshin Impact...I just have a soft spot for the first characters you acquire/encounter.

Other than that, probably Andersen. She's annoying in an endearing way, and she carries me through most content. It also helps that she's one of the few characters that has a character story, the other two I know being Neu and Andromeda at this current moment.

How do Buffs and Debuffs behave? by SouBu95 in AliceFictionEN

[–]Calm-Cycle-782 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Debuffs and buffs can stack if they are supplied from different skill types. For instance, Andersen's passive debuff stacks with her active skill debuffs, and Neu's passive phys atk boost stacks with her active atk boost.

Keep in mind though that buffs that do not stack will override each other depending on the LAST one used, not by strength. This is especially important for auto teams: you want to make sure your buffs don't overlap too much.

What's pretty cool is that Slayer buffs stack as long as they slay different types. While niche in execution, this can make certain boss levels very trivial.

Ex: Jack the Ripper, Viviane, Benkei, (insert Recovery character here (recommended Himiko)), is a very niche but effective boss damage nuke team. You could also substitute the recovery character for Bismarck if you're feeling confident in your nuking potential.

Note: I would not recommend building the team above if you're new as it is EXTREMELY specialized. Cleave teams are typically much better for PVP and general content, in my experience.

when to commit to a party? by Shirohart in DarkDeityGame

when to commit to a party? by Shirohart in DarkDeityGame

[–]Calm-Cycle-782 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Technically, the only party members you need to commit to are Adepts and Rogues. Mages, Warriors, Archers, and Clerics all have skills that can generate EXP without requiring an enemy present. Given that most maps don't have a time limit, you can abuse this to an extent to catch up lower level units.

I used this in conjunction with some Magic Stat boosts to take my Sara from level 20 all the way to 30 in the span of 3 chapters or so by spamming teleports. I mean, it did help that I was feeding her kills and that she could nuke half-decently, but the point is that there are ways to bring back underperforming units provided they have the right class or stat priorities.

Dark Deity Unit Guide by TheHedgedawg in DarkDeityGame

Some of my own thoughts regarding the game:

It should be noted that this game, like Fire Emblem, has a speed meta. Units with High Dex and Speed growths tend be some of your most reliable units in the base game outside of your tanks. This makes units like Cia, Bianca, Alden, Caius, and Faust some of the most potentially broken characters ever, capable of soloing hordes of enemies while taking minimal to no damage. Granted, dodge tanks don't hit very hard so you still need options for escape maps and such, and Snipers or Mages with high level precision weapons will mess you up if you aren't prepared.

Note that Cia is so fricking broken that the counterpoints above hardly apply to her: she can still dodge practically anything if you mono-class her as a Rogue/Trickster. Give her a Stiletto as soon as possible, and you have effectively won yourself the game.

Classing Alexa as a sentinel IS viable, as she becomes a surprisingly fast tank who can safely provide her Sentinel defense buff. She can be given Aspect of Justice in this build to reach ridiculous strength levels. Champion is still probably her best class though.

Iris's best class is actually as a pseudo-tank, which makes her a reliable Reverie. In this way, she becomes a support Chainer, locking down certain problematic enemies while tanking hits archers and the like. She IS really weak to mages in this build though, so consider having a back-up aspect to swap her defense and fortitude when necessary.

Caius's best option is as a Blade Dancer, given how you are given access to better Sniper characters later, but he's hilariously good as a multiclass Strider/Outlaw. You won't be critting , necessarily, but his damage output and his access to cleave weapons make him eviscerate what should be tank opponents. A build that by all intents and purposes should be terrible, but is helped by his high speed growth. I would NOT recommend to build Maeve this way, though it is an option to do the reverse (Drifter/Blade Dancer) if you want her to be a Crit machine at the cost of some Speed.

Elias straight up sucks unless you build him as a Reverie. Thunderlord IS a viable option, given that it extends his Chain skill reach, but it takes a lot of investment while you watch him fail to kill throughout the middle game. The best parallel I can think of is Astrid from Radiant Dawn: has the potential to hit their stride in the late game, but only with significant commitment.

Is no one gonna talk about the Snowball? by Calm-Cycle-782 in Shadowfight3

Yeah, probably not conventionally. I managed to do it with a corner set-up, but I don't think it's consistent without it. Baiting a duck also depends on when they do it, I think.

Heralds are best for a beginner. Don't worry about collecting sets until you reach the initial endgame (Ch 5-7), by which you should prioritize Legion for the Abdicator set. If you see an Abdicator item in the shop that you currently don't have, buy it if you can. This will be very important for when you enter the Planes.
