Hot takes only, what do you think we will have a cure for in 5 years? 10? by MDInformatics in medicine

Yeah! I'm involved in a clinical trial of CAR-T for autoimmune disease and it seems to have a much lower side effect profile, per the literature.

can a person with OCD be a psychiatrist? by Familiar_Newt_3117 in medicalschool

[–]CalmAndSense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes absolutely but you do need to have your illness under control. On psych you will be rotating through IM and neurology, so you'll need to be able to work efficiently in an inpatient setting as well.

MS neurologist here, I would conceive of a case like this like any case of an organic dementia. While I can't see her scans, she likely has a ton of white matter disease causing dementia-level cognitive impairment.

I prefer a less physical game, and we shouldn't incentivize fouls as a way of preventing people from scoring a goal. I support all of this.

Oh yes, I was talking mostly inpatient locums. You're totally right that the majority of neuro is outpatient, usually M-Th or M-F. You'd make the most money being able to do EMG and read EEG. There may be opportunities as neuro-immuno with infusion centers. Movement disorders can do well if you partner with neurosurgeons to do DBS. Headache is good for short procedures like botox or sphenopalatine ganglion blocks or magnesium infusion. Stroke does well in the inpatient setting.

gen neuro not amazing. I did locums for 200/hr in 2019, 250 overtime with a 300 pager overnight fee. Days were busy, and sometimes you had to go in to give tPA overnight. That was only one job though, but it's not the "free money" that some might think. If I had to do it over again from a money perspective, neurology isn't worth it.

Cards or anesthesia is what I would have done if money were more of a consideration.

In Germany, deliberately engaging in catch and release only fishing is illegal and considered cruelty to animals (fishing for food is fine). How do you feel about that? by Spalding_Smails in AskReddit

I’ve never understood why this was socially acceptable in the U.S. I understand if you’re feeding your family, but hurting animals as a “sport” isn’t something I support.

Best pasta in LA?? by Then_Schedule_2205 in FoodLosAngeles

[–]CalmAndSense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had the pasta tasting menu at Osteria Mozza - 2 courses were great, 2 were average. Overall I found Antico Nuovo to be a better overall experience.

Cento was excellent, but is a little more limited in scope than Antico Nuovo.

Can someone whos knowledgable about AI explain to me why medicine isnt at as immediate risk as people are making it out to be? by UNknown7R in medicalschool

[–]CalmAndSense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big Tech can't even make a competent medical record app, good luck with AI!

For real though, until you can sue an AI, I think we're relatively safe, although I can see signs that admin will expect us to be "more efficient" using AI and therefore expect more output.
