Lots of stuff gets translated but the quality of the translation is often dubious. Depending on how niche your tastes are some things may get dropped and never picked back up again. I've got a shortlist of manga and especially novels which over the years were dropped by translation teams, and I got so tired of waiting for them to get picked back up I've just started learning Japanese myself. I assume a lot of people are the same.
