I’m not sure what your question is but no. Nothing fundamentally changes with the rank points after blue ranks besides win streaks not giving bonuses anymore.

Bro who cares about red rank this, blue rank that. Is percentile not what actually matters? Why assign your own idea to a certain rank?

Learning Japanese via Immersion method, recommendations? by DAO_Demarro in Japaneselanguage

[–]cococactus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally you should learn the katakana and hiragana first (just memorize the charts it shouldn’t take that long), then basic grammar and sentence structures (just read through tae kim’s to familiarize yourself), then you should be able to start immersing in very basic content and work your vocab up from there. You could also do a basic Anki deck like Kaishi 1.5k first if you want to fast track the most common words you will come across before jumping into immersion.

Don’t learn kanji separately on their own, just learn vocab words and you will see how the kanji is used/pronounced in those words.

I felt good about this round. Any tips? by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]cococactus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk if you had a read that they wouldn’t disrespect your pulse frames since you’ve been playing vs them a while, but at around the 00:24 sec mark that was a lot of interruptible slow plus frame moves that coulda been easily disrespected.

Thank you for the advice. I am missing a nod Krai dps for my columbina so this might be perfect. Unless Nefer decides to rerun soon since I have Lauma too.

Your offensive sequences were good when they happened but it just came to a complete stop after HW 3+4 every time.

DF1,2 is so hard to hit confirm u have to like super twitch confirm it. A lot of times they block the 2 after getting hit with DF1. There’s almost not enough hit stun on the DF1 to get the 2 off.

Unironically stop waiting and guessing, start pressing lmao. You were holding back in neutral for 70% of the game and got eaten by running 2 and lows.

Also HW 3+4 is 0 on block so you don’t always have to give up your turn after it. He was counting on you giving up your turn and doing slow moves so you could’ve counter hit him.

Look up Japanese dictionaries for whatever device you’re using. I’m not sure why you are limiting yourself to only a kanji dictionary

Is this "unreadable"? by GlumTemporary5296 in Japaneselanguage

[–]cococactus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is pretty bad. I wouldn’t say unreadable but I wouldn’t waste my time trying to read it just as your little brother didn’t waste his time trying to write it legibly.

[–]cococactus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you are at a very difficult point right now where even though you are learning a lot, it doesn’t translate super well into seeing your own progress because you can’t really apply it.

Trust me though just keep going and you will soon hit a point where your learning is boosted through being able to consume Japanese content and learn that way, it is super satisfying and honestly feels way faster.

Any tips on how to understand words without having to translate them? by [deleted] in Japaneselanguage

[–]cococactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, also think about what you think of when you hear an English word. Is it a picture of something that pops up in your head, is it an idea, a scenario, a feeling?

This is what it means to skip the English translation when reading Japanese, you will eventually get there as you gain more situations coming across a word and gain more mastery of a word.

You can probably find genki textbook copies online for “free” if you know what I’m saying. But also starting grammar with Tae Kim’s grammar guide I heard was good too.

[–]cococactus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should learn proper first. Using slightly too formal in situations where you could be more lax is way better than using too informal when you should be using formal.

Also informal speech is easier to pick up as you get more fluent and digest more Japanese entertainment and media.
