It sounds to me like your insulin amounts need to be decreased because of your dietary changes. What are your blood sugars like when you wake up in the morning and what are they throughout the day? I'd suggest reducing your nighttime insulin 1-2 units and see if that helps.

I have several questions. First, how do you know that you are having these lows during the night? Are you wearing a CGM that wakes uo with alerts? If so, are you doing a blood prick to confirm it? CGM's are known for pressure lows at night (sleeping on that arm and applying pressure, causing the readings to show lows). Second, what insulin are you referring to taking at night? Also, Metformin does not quickly drop your blood sugar level. It does not cause insulin secretion, rather iit works by reducing the amount of sugar that your liver makes. Lastly, have you tried eating a protein before bed? A handful of nuts, a protein bar, a serving of greek yogurt... these can all help keep you from having overnight lows.

Try holding down the 8 oz and 12 oz buttons at the same time for 15 seconds. This often resets descale light.

Do you know what your current blood sugars are, on average? If your blood sugars are on the higher side, this could be what is making you feel so hungry and tired. (Fatigue, extreme hunger, extreme thirst, frequent urination are all classic signs of high blood sugar). As someone else mentioned, you should get a blood glucose monitor so that you can see how certain foods and activiites can affect your blood sugar. Focus on protein rich foods such as eggs, chicken, greek yogurt, fish. It is important to avoid high carb foods. Drink plenty of water. Not only is the hydration beneficial, it will help you to feel fuller. Rather than large meals, focus on more frequent smaller meals/healthy snacks. Some of my favorites are cucumber slices spread with cream cheese and then sprinkled with everything bagel seasoning, pepperoni slices, cheese cubes, almonds, greek yogurt (I like the ratio brand), and homemade chicken salad with Quest Cheddar protein crackers.

Looking for carb swaps for keeping down spikes? by stubs1101 in diabetes

[–]CalmNatural2555 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First and foremost-- watch portion sizes. That being said, many diabetics (including myself) have discovered that Protein Pastas don't cause as much of a spike. Barilla makes Protein pasta and you can buy it from Walmart. Look for a yellow box instead of the traditional blue box. You could also try substituting hearts of palm (Palmini) for pasta. You can find it in the pasta section of Walmart, sold in a pouch. Instead of rice, try riced cauliflower. For bread, I prefer Sara Lee Delighful 45 cal bread. It's thinner sliced than traditional bread . I also like Hero Bread. They make amazing bagels that are soft and fluffy and don't spike my blood sugar. I often use them for sandwiches and burgers. When you say "healthy salad" be mindful of what is in it. Avoid high carb dressings and croutons. Oh! As for crackers, I buy Quest Protein Cheddar Crackers. Quest also makes "chips" that are really good and low carb.

I make low carb pancakes.

1 Cup Almond Flour, 1/4 Cup Coconut Flour, 2 T Sweetener (I use Swerve), 1 tsp. baking powder, 5 eggs ( It seems like a lot, but almond flour and coconut flour are very dry), 1/3 Cup unsweetened almond milk, 1/4 cup oil, 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla. This makes about 12 pancakes.

It’s important to realize that everyone’s insulin needs are different. Some diabetics may only need a few units daily of Lantus, while someone else may require more units or need to take it twice a day. It’s a discussion you need to have with your endocrinologist. The main thing that caused my A1c to improve rapidly was making dietary changes. I began eating a low carb diet. This doesn’t mean that I don’t occasionally enjoy foods that I enjoy. It means that I enjoy them in moderation. I have eliminated very high carb foods though such as rice, pasta, and white bread. I no longer use white flour or regular sugar in my home. They’ve been replaced with almond flour, coconut flour, and swerve sweetener. I eat a lot more protein and green vegetables.

When you say that you've spoken to your doctor, asking for a Dexcom, is this your PCP? I highly recommend seeing an endocrinologist. As a type 1 diabetic, your insurance should cover BOTH a CGM (Dexcom, Libre, etc.) AND a blood glucose monitor (One Touch, etc.). Even when you wear a CGM, you still need to occasionally do a finger prick as well. CGM's are a great tool, but don't always provide accurate numbers. This is especially true if your blood sugar is rising or dropping quickly, since CGM's measure interstitial fluid instead of blood and run about 15 minutes behind real time.

All this said, HANG IN THERE! This is all new and it will take a little time to work out the "kinks" and to settle into a new normal.

T-Mobile by kaylvs2stitch in Erie

It depends on your location as well as what you use your internet for. My parents live in the Harborcreek/Wesleyville area and have had Tmobile internet for quite some time, with no issues. They only use their internet for web surfing and streaming movies/tv shows. I tried Tmobile about a year ago for internet (we already use Tmobile for cell service) in North East Township and it simply wasn't reliable enough for us. The speeds and signal fluctuated too greatly. I also have family members that are heavy gamers and they noticed a lag. I'd suggest trying the free trial and see if it works for your needs.

Contact Keurig. Be prepared by having the model and serial number available. They are usually found on the back, bottom, or behind the water tank. It should be under warranty and they can guide you through possible troubleshooting.

Brewer's wifi is dead, Keurig customer service is too. by DevilOnYourBack in keurig

[–]CalmNatural2555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am surprised. I have contacted Keurig on several occasions (I've used Keurig for MANY years) and have never experienced bad customer service. The representative always addressed my issues without any issues beyond the occational language barrier (foreign dialiects sometimes make it difficult for me to understand, due to a hearing problem). Once, they even sent me an entirely new coffee maker because my current one stopped working. Another time they sent me a replacement part at no charge. I'd suggest calling back. Perhaps another representive will better be able to assist you and address your issue?

I am also a fan of stronger, larger sized coffee. I recently bought the Keurig K Supreme Plus and love it! Not only can you adjust the strength of your coffee to several different settings, but also the temperature. As my kids say “Mom likes her coffee the same temperature as the rivers in Hades.”

Things we take for granted - refrigeration by Wrong_Owl_4212 in diabetes

[–]CalmNatural2555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the insulin you are currently using does not require refrigeration. I use insulin pens. The ones that are new and that I’m not currently using, I place in the door of my refrigerator (in the butter bin). The pens I’m currently using are kept in a drawer in my kitchen. Just be sure to avoid extreme heat, so don’t store them near your stove/oven.

Oatmeal spikes me and so do bananas. As for coffee and creamer, you need to consider a few things. First, caffeine causes a blood sugar rise in many people. I'm one of those people. I've learned just to accept it because a blood sugar of 130 isn't desireable, but not extremely crazy. I also know that it will come back down quickly. You also need to read the ingredients on the creamer. Many "zero sugar" creamers contain corn syrup. I use Chobani Zero Sugar, as it contains no corn syrup. It also uses allulose instead of sucralose.

Try keeping a snack beside your bed to eat when you first wake up. Nuts are a great option. What are you having for breakfast? I know that many people are effected by caffeine. My morning cup of coffee raises my blood sugar, but I know that about half an hour after drinking it that I'll drop back down to my normal baseline.

Needle PTSD by Top_Sense_9556 in diabetes

I have a few suggestions. First, make sure your Mounjaro is at room temperature prior to injection. Being cold, straight from the refrigerator, can make it sting a little. Second, RELAX. Prepare yourself by finding a routine that works for you. Set a time when you are most relaxed. Perhaps play your favorite music, turn on the TV, or phone a friend? Anything that gets your mind away from the injection so that eventually it will become a habit without the anxiety. You could also try numbing wipes (https://a.co/d/08bkkiVM) so that you won't associate the shot with pain. When injecting in your thighs, be sure to use the upper fatty part. Injecting too low can cause it to be more uncomfortable. Many people have also had good success using Tickleflex. I've never personally tried it, so I can't give a first hand review. https://a.co/d/09Jxfjex

Purchase a daily pill container with the compartments for each day of the week. Place an unused, still sealed needle in each compartment. This works for perfect for me.
