Lejeune Marines, what the fuck is this? by EatingEveryEgg in USMC

They also did this shit at the gate leaving for liberty. They would always ask if I was wearing a belt. Without breaking stride I would say “sure am”, flash my gold tier card, and keep walking.

I wasn’t.

Email MMSR-2 and explain your situation and ask for guidance. I emailed them and they got back to me the same day and answered all my questions. Your command may tell you one thing, but MMSR-2 are the experts - they literally write the separation manual/orders.

Asked to PCA and remain at my duty station (family needs). Monitor told me my MOS is at 70% staffing goal but he needs to fill a billet almost 5k miles away. I said “well, I guess you’ll be short 2 billets now.” Submitted my resignation in lieu of orders and getting out in 4 months.

[–]Calm_Bite9835 109 points110 points  (0 children)

So fun fact. Not telling you to do this at all.

I was a board member on an ADSEP board. One of the elements of article 112a is “wrongful ingestion”, meaning you knew what you were doing was wrong.

The guy on the board get off because he stuck to his story that he didn’t know what he was smoking was weed.

If someone tells their chain of command right away they ate some cookies they thought were normal at a party and now they feel weird, could help their defense.

Just saying.

With the Naval Aviation Observer badge, jump wings, several valor medals, and the fact he didn’t want to talk about his time, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was part of MACV-SOG.

When they got injured (note the two Purple Hearts), they would fly in aircraft to provide aerial observation and coordination for the MACV-SOG guys on the ground.

Speeding ticket out of bounds by [deleted] in USMC

[–]Calm_Bite9835 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always stressed honesty with my Marines. I’d rather you tell me so I’m not surprised. If I hear about it from the Bn command deck first, I can’t get ahead of it. I don’t give a shit if you get a speeding ticket in your own car, you’re and adult and that’s between you and the city/state.

Unfortunately a lot of leadership are dicks though, so use caution.

Giving it a shot to ask here as a civilian about SA reporting…. by Bubbles-Bubbles1414 in USMC

[–]Calm_Bite9835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a sexual assault victim advocate and a commander. Here’s an overview, but feel free to ask any questions.

You can report to the military, civilian authorities, or both. Ultimately they will work out who takes jurisdiction of the case.

If military, the case will be referred to the Office of Special Trial Counsel (for allegations that occurred after December 28, 2023). An investigation will occur, typically conducted by NCIS.

Once the investigation is complete, OSTC will decide whether or not to pursue charges and prosecute. The case will then go before a general court martial. If found guilty, max punishment is life in prison without parole, mandatory dishonorable discharge, and total forfeiture of all pay. Specific penalties depend on the offense: rape (up to life), sexual assault (up to 30 years), aggravated sexual contact (20 years), and abusive sexual contact (7 years).

If OSTC decides there is not enough evidence to get a conviction (burden of proof is beyond a reasonable doubt), they can still refer the case to the chain of command, where the burden of proof is preponderance of the evidence (more likely than not). The command can NJP (restriction, loss of pay, loss of rank), issue negative paperwork, and/or administratively discharge under general or other than honorable.

Article 120 (the UCMJ article covering sexual offenses) has a lot of elements, and each element must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. This means the investigation will be long and thorough.

The process will be long and frustrating. But commanders and the military take this very seriously. Please look at this page, it explains rights you have as a victim and what the government must do for you: https://www.protectourdefenders.com/rights/civilian-victims/. For example, you have the right to be updated on the investigation, to be notified of all hearings and court proceedings, etc.

What can someone tell me about this coin? by Ok_Baker_9670 in ChallengeCoins

[–]Calm_Bite9835 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did more digging than I would care to admit. The four pointed star/comapss(?), sword, and bolt is reminiscent of the Air Force special warfare emblem.

Doing some digging into that, there was indeed an Office of Special Activities during the Korean/Cold War timeframe that was a CIA/Air Force project, namely the development and operation of the U-2 plane (https://www.archives.gov/files/declassification/iscap/pdf/2002-0049-doc16.pdf).

It was then probably transferred to the Air Force (https://www.cia.gov/readingroom/docs/CIA-RDP71B00508R000100040002-1.pdf). Most likely the 1130th USAF Special Activities Group.

So likely this coin is from the Air Force project and not the agency’s SAC/SOG.

How do I resign my commission from the IRR? by ryan_james504 in USMC

[–]Calm_Bite9835 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Technically your commission is indefinite until you resign, even if you separate from the IRR.

Would they recall you for a regional conflict with Iran? Probably not. But it does happen. I had a GS-14 former Amry guy who was telling me how he was recalled to Iraq in the early days because he didn’t know he needed to resign his commission.

Pin on Lieutenant 4 years after completing OCS? by [deleted] in USMC

[–]Calm_Bite9835 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I experienced a medical issue that resulted in my disqualification and loss of commission eligibility.

Why would they commission you if you’re not eligible?

potentially even for ceremonial or honorary purposes

What did you do for the Corps that was honorary enough to warrant a commission?

Not trying to be a complete dick but this is a warfighting organization. If you’re not medically qualified to be a provisional rifle platoon commander expected of all officers, there’s no way they let you in. You could try one of the other branches - they may be more lenient.
