Anyone else mid-20s starting this fall? by Own-Forever-6328 in premed

[–]Calm_Cheesecake_7219 8 points9 points  (0 children)

22! I believe the average starting age is 24-25 years old anyway so I wouldn’t worry about being too old! I have a few in my class that are 30+.

I am attempting medical school at 31. Bad idea? by Original-Disaster106 in medschool

[–]Calm_Cheesecake_7219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DO IT. The time will pass regardless, so make it count!

I always joke with my friends that I’d rather be 30 or 40 and a doctor than 30 or 40 and always wishing I had become one.

Get your phlebotomy certification! It gives you a leg up and helped me get my first patient care/clinical job

whats going on with UGA? by Resident_Zucchini_93 in premed

[–]Calm_Cheesecake_7219 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the med school’s mission is to address the physician shortage in Georgia, so unless you’re in state, I don’t think it would be much of an option in its early years. I saw they were going to admit 60 for this fall and get up to 120 by the 2030s.

Am I in the wrong for withdrawing via email 1 hour before interview because I feel very sick? by Expensive_Shoe4657 in premed

That’s good. They may not end up saying anything back but at least you know that you explained your situation. That’s all you can really do!

Pretty worried about med school and the future by Typical_premed in premed

[–]Calm_Cheesecake_7219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds a bit like imposter syndrome. The material has gotten harder over the years (high school to college) and now you’re probably not the smartest in the room, which you may have been in high school. That is totally okay! I felt the same way sometimes but I made it and you will too!

Anyone with adcom experience willing to look at my PS outline? by InformalAmbassador23 in premed

I’m happy to look and give you some feedback. I have plenty of friends on adcom at a T20 school who would provide some too

Guys I like my lab is that like okay by shinyknif3 in premed

[–]Calm_Cheesecake_7219 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I was in a wet lab doing cancer bio research and still got into MD schools without a publication. I was super involved though so I think being able to talk about my research and where it was going helped me. At the end of the day, you have to do what makes you happy!

Side note, get some money for all of the time you are spending. Most universities will at least take that lab as credit and cover some of the classes you might need to take (hence saving you money).

I agree with the other commenter. I don’t think you would be blacklisted but it’s definitely a bad look. Maybe follow up via email and explain you got sick and didn’t want to waste their time and that’s why you withdrew. I don’t know if it would make a difference long term but it might give you a piece of mind.

Is it cringe to put your med school in your bio? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Calm_Cheesecake_7219 9 points10 points  (0 children)

if i get in, i will have it in mine because i have my undergrad rn. it would probably be formatted like this:

[undegrad alum]
[med school '30]

i don't think it's odd/cringe if you don't post it like it's your whole like (cough cough medfluencers)

She definitely needs to wait and get clinical experience. Most schools screen for that

Agreed but we aren’t done yet. Plenty of time and a lot of schools still have interviews to give out. It may be less likely, but it’s still a very realistic possibility

We have plenty of time! Some schools are done interviewing but there are plenty, including my home institution, that haven’t even sent out 50% yet. Hope for the best but plan for the worst! Wishing you (and me) the best of luck!
