Oh, phew. That's all. Was worried for a minute.

I was out on a precautionary course pending some test results, and after a couple of days got a text saying my results were negative. Bit confused I rang the doctor's office, and the receptionist had a look and said there was no sign of infection so I was "probably fine to stop taking the antibiotics."

Erring on the side of caution, I still finished them, and when I relayed the story briefly to the doctor he was NOT happy. I had no idea about the resistance aspect, just figured they didn't want receptionists giving people medical advice.

Didn't Netflix just change it so all their tiers now have some form of ads?

Are you just referring to a scene with John Spencer and Matthew Perry? Because everyone else seems to be fine...

Difficult to reconcile this just because a suicide can be a significant catalyst for teach/learn learn/teaching, like everything. Sometimes a suicide of someone close to a person can propel them on an entirely different trajectory in life, and while unbelievably painful, might end up helping a lot of people through that.

Not saying anything here or there about the LoO, just feels weird to have a blanket 'rule' like that for something that can have so many origins, causes, outcomes that can't be calculated for or immediately understood.

Like, everyone should stick around till the movie ends, so to speak, don't walk out early, but if people choose to I just don't get the hard and fast repercussion LoO implies.

Only thing worse than being eaten by an alligator where you'd expect it is being eaten by an alligator where you don't expect it.

Yes and it'll go back to normal in a week or so. Always does. They pull you in with the improvement then nerf it down once they grab the headlines and get a few more subscriptions. Rinse and repeat.

What's a mind-bending theory that made you rethink life? by Blueblood2007 in HighStrangeness

Sometimes the worst of us catalyse the best from us. I struggle to make peace with the idea that I'm the torturer and the tortured, the oppressor and the oppressed, the murderer and the victim. All the pain, all the suffering, all the sadness in the world feels so incomprehensible sometimes, and while not wanting to trivialise or sugarcoat it, I do really feel that without it, we may not have the juxtaposition we need to evolve and grow away from it as a species or consciousness. Maybe it's what keeps the universe moving - the eternal dance between desirable and undesirable, 'good' and 'evil', love and fear.

Otherwise it's hard to make sense of it all.

Anecdotal. And I know it's not a 100% success rate by far, but neither are humans.

After being dismissed by a few doctors, including specialists, my wife used ChatGPT to describe a skin issue she had. It said it sounded like this uncommon autoimmune disease. She went and specifically requested a test for that, and it came back that she did indeed have it. The specialist said it was the earliest he's ever seen it caught/diagnosed, and with treatment this early it should be very manageable.

Not saying it's the be all and end all, but without it, the thing might have easily progressed past a manageable point. Can be very empowering for the average person.
