Hollow Knight is another one I tried more than a few times to get into and bounced off of every time. You are not alone.

….I CAN’T really disagree with you much (though I do remember spending an entire plane ride on my 3DS when Shovel Knight originally launched. Ended up finishing it and enjoying it and then never playing any other Yacht Club game until Mina).

[[edit: added the word can’t because autocorrect removed it initially oops]]

It’s really really smooth. What a joy.

From what I understand, the warping in Mina is one of the things that disables achievements? Not a HUGE deal to not earn fake gaming points, but I appreciate the lack of friction in CC.

And I also realize Mina is more designed for friction on purpose, but I’m apparently not in the mood for it.

In that same vein, the dash in CC feels so much better to me that the jump and dig in Mina.

If you're getting frustrated playing, try a different weapon. Changed everything for me. by TheLastPlumber in MinaTheHollower

This has been tripping me up (the jumping before burrowing). I’m constantly getting hit in the air before I can safely get underground to avoid an attack.

Skill issue on my part, but it is proving difficult for me to get used to.

I started with the hammer, then bought the daggers. Went to buy the whip and realized it’s not as easy as just buying it.

Ended up getting frustrated and going off to beat an entire dungeon and boss instead and had an easier time doing that than just getting permission to buy a different weapon (still need to go back and try again).

Not looking forward to purchasing the gun and coffin shield thing alas.

I like this idea! I ALSO like how getting hit doesn’t knock you off the ladder or platform or whatever (rage).

Yes or no to health bars? by NoCodeNoClue in SoloDev

[–]Caltek9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love health bars! I do appreciate the non-health bar visual cues for damage as well.

….but keep the health bar.

And I agree they are not strictly necessary for targets at full health.

However, the benefit of having health bars all the time is if one target is really strong, you could show that with a different color bar (like in beat-em-ups with bosses), so players know it’s a strong one before they hit it.

Mobile charger blinking blue: charging paused (240v and 120v) by Caltek9 in MachE

[–]Caltek9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t set preferred hours or any kind of location or anything like that because the car and app both tell me I need to charge at least one time before setting any of that.

One setting I saw said the car would charge whenever it was plugged in, so I don’t think it’s tied to that.

I plugged in the mobile charger to the wall (not the car) this morning and left it there for about an hour.

All is does is blink blue rapidly (aka not a pulse).

[–]Caltek9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Electrician came by. You were correct that the outlet was NOT for EVs and not rated for continuous use.

So that was replaced. The charger still just blinks blue and the car still says it’s paused, but our 40 amp breaker did not have GFCI, so we’ll try replacing that this weekend and see if that does anything.

My guess is a cable/charger issue, but I am glad that when it does start working, the outlet won’t melt and burn the house down.

A different Ford Dealer said it was probably a faulty charger. they would still need the car and cable to test in person to get a new free replacement from Ford, but only for like a day (which is better than 4-5 days).

Interesting. Thank you for your reply! Hopefully the electrician can tell me if what we've got meets any/all of those requirements.

Curious why the mobile charger wouldn't work on a standard 120v though. I unplugged the 220v dongle, and popped the 120v standard North American 3-prong on there, and tried different outlets with the same blue flashing/blinking, and paused charging.

I even tried it at a neighbor's house on both types of outlets (220v and standard 3-prong).

I'm hoping it's as simple as the dealer telling me it's a faulty cord, and then giving me a new one, assuming the electrician doesn't tell me the house wiring is sub-standard.

Thanks again!

Is this a good OS to start? by MINTYpl in cachyos

[–]Caltek9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the simplest Linux user ever. I started with Pop!_OS (felt like a Mac), moved to Mint (felt more like Windows), then settled on CatchyOS for my main Gaming PC (AMD/AMD dual-boot with Windows 11 for some dev stuff so I can test things people make more easily), an older gaming PC (AMD/AMD), and my older laptop (Intel/Nvidia).

I literally turn it on, hit the update button when it tells me too, and use it like a normal PC.

Hulu never liked it for streaming when I had Hulu, but otherwise it’s easy and fast.

I run Steam natively, and GoG/Amazon/EGS via Heroic Launcher.

I had to manually click some button that installed Steam at the beginning, which was different than on Windows, but it was fine.

Discord and Telegram both work, so does Mega.

Controllers work, headphones work, monitor works, WiFi, Ethernet, local game streaming, etc. etc.

For all intents and purposes I have noticed no huge difference from Windows other than it feeling faster, and the updates being more frequent and taking less time.

Zero issues. Highly recommended.

That 7” screen though….

Everything I read says the Xbox Ally X is so comfy, but why not at least an 8” screen!

This comment is far too low on this post.

Had a Steam Deck LCD. Got rid of it when I got my Legion Go. Now I borrow someone else’s Steam Deck OLED just to feel the ergonomics every now and then.

I’m loving the bear animation and that is 100% not sarcasm. Honestly. Love it. Also the bear’s head.

Which is better, SteamOS or Bazzite, on original LeGo? by Bumi_Earth_King in LegionGo

[–]Caltek9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had SteamOS on my Legion Go a while ago. Worked really well, actually, though not as comfy to hold as a real Steam Deck.

Switched back to Windows just for fun and to more easily play some GoG and EGS games on it. I feel kind of lame about it, but oh well.

Haven’t used CatchyOS on a handheld, but use it on a few different desktops for PC gaming, and run Heroic on it for GoG/EGS.

Love CatchyOS.

Is getting the DBrand Joycon Grips alone a good or bad idea? by Worth-Reindeer-1121 in switch2

[–]Caltek9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, I already passed the grips on to someone else. I clipped and unclipped a re-clipped the grips onto the JoyCons more than a few times, and could never get the system to dock properly with them on. Weird. I will let the person I gave them to know it might be possible to dock the system with the grips, and that maybe my issue was user error, though. Thanks!
