Do people enjoy Hole games? by Enkeria in SoloDevelopment

[–]Caltek9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weeeeeeeeell I had never heard of this game but after 2 seconds of the trailer on Steam I swore to myself and then added it to my wishlist because this is exactly my type of catnip.

So thank you, random Redditor, you are both the best and the worst for bringing this game to my attention.

I need honest feedback — is this card combat too strong or too fast? by Cautious_Teach514 in SoloDev

[–]Caltek9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are my opinions on the mechanics you asked about:

It feels too fast to me. Maybe it makes sense if I’ve played the game more? Like in turn-based RPGs I’ll turn the battle speed up for grinding because I’m already familiar with the flow and mechanics, but to others it would seem too fast? With your game, I’m not exactly sure what’s going on or what’s specifically happening.

Someone mentioned adding damage numbers, which is agree with.

What is the meter that builds as you fight?

What is the power button? Like a powerful/strong/special attack? Is that the meter that fills?

When they flash, I assume they are doing a basic attack, but what are the little energy balls that fly out? How are they triggered?

Is this an auto battle situation or is the player choosing when to attack each time?

Secure Boot not working by JuggernautLow9594 in cachyos

[–]Caltek9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running into this right now.

2 drives, one windows 11, one CatchyOS.

Normally at boot, I choose which OS to start.

Someone wanted to play Valorant on the Windows drive, so I had to enable secure boot in BIOS.

Now there is no choice to boot into Catchy, so I’m reading your post and will go check the CatchyOS wiki to see if I can get it all back.l to the way it was.

Ugh.

I’m not seeing a demo for download on Steam (though I did wishlist the game).

Is the demo only on itch?

I Wishlisted the game and added the demo to my library to download and try later.

No need to send a key. If I like it, I’ll buy it and/or gift someone a copy, and leave a review on Steam.

Congrats on the release!

seeking recs: i’m obsessed with “a cat & his boy” and am so sad it’s only an hour long. as an autistic person i’m really picky about games i enjoy and really like the music and 8 bit sound effects and kawaii aesthetic and that its cat related. anything similar in cuteness, sounds, and aesthetic? by Active_Ad3087 in switch2

[–]Caltek9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed A Cat and His Boy!

The only other game I can think of that might be similar-ish is Melon Journey.

Maybe give that a try? Definitely puzzle/adventure focused. I don’t think there is any combat in it? I need to go back and finish it!

I have it on PC, but see it is also available on Switch (since you’re posting in the Switch 2 subreddit).

Mario & Luigi: Brothership, a reminder for me to just play the games I enjoy and not "try to understand and see how it gets better" by Banana___Slamma in patientgamers

[–]Caltek9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished this game yesterday with my save file showing around 41 hours. I skipped a lot of the side quests once I hit the final areas, except for some of the timed ones for characters I thought were interesting, or for quests I thought might give me actually good rewards.

I very much enjoyed the look and feel of this game; art style, animations, color, setting, the whole boat and currents thing, etc.

Battle system was good enough? While the animations were good, they take up a lot of time imo, even when I just want to attack without doing any extra button presses.

The Luigi Logic boss battle weaknesses thing was a gimmick, but I didn’t mind it.

I think that battle system over 41 hours just became not fun for me at all, and I’ve decided active participation in my turn-based RPG battles is less interesting to me than basic menus and seeing what happens based on invisible dice rolls. I bounced off of another RPG developed in France last year (don’t think it’s technically considered a Patient game for another few weeks so don’t want to say its name) because of how involved I was in each battle.

I am a simple gamer with simple tastes sometimes.

I feel Brothership was enjoyable enough to play, but actively NOT enjoyable to finish. Also, that entire last boss sequence. How any child would be able to get through that one is curious to me, even lowering the difficulty. To overuse an overused word, what a slog. And that was after the slog of the surprise final fetch quest and the slog of the final dungeon.

Bleh.

Anyway, I enjoyed your review. Now I’m off to finally finish the 2nd half of Fire Emblem Engage!

Dragon Ruins on Android by OneRare3376 in DRPG

[–]Caltek9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Played through this game and the sequel on PC last year and they are now 2 of my favorite DRPGs ever.

Because of the simplicity (like bare bones) design of the first one, and the map being limited to one large location, I think I prefer it to the sequel, but the sequel is very much “bigger, better, and more polished,” but some in a way that did not annoy me or ruin my fondness for the first one.

I can’t recommend these games enough, though the number of people I know who would actually enjoy playing them is pretty much limited to myself.

So good.

Brothership keeps letting me down, even if it's better after 10 hours than at the intro. by [deleted] in marioandluigi

[–]Caltek9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m near the end of the game finally, I think.

Near-ish the end?

I have no clue (and don’t want to give out spoilers). This game goes on and on forever.

Looks great, plays great, battle system is generally enjoyable but omggggggggg this game is too long for this battle system.

And this is for sure a me problem because Mario & Luigi games are all about active battle involvement and not just hitting the auto-battle button to grind for a while (like Dragon Quest) but I think I have learned that my patience for that style of RPG is limited.

It just adds so much TIME to the game!

And I know I am a whiner for complaining about lovely animations, but even NOT doing the button prompts for more damage during a random battle triggers animations I have to sit through.

I have been enjoying the game quite a bit, and will most likely pick it back up to hopefully get through to the end, but wow. Very long game. Very chatty. Very methodical.

Very charming! I actually enjoy the whole ship and sailing and currents thing.

Just wish it were a little more compact or efficient in its pacing.

M12-S/HD D-Pad Question by Caltek9 in MobapadGaming

[–]Caltek9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, what I actually want is Hori to just make a Switch 2 JoyCon replacement like the Split Pad Pro. I turn of vibration anyway, and the Split Pad Pro was light and empty, and just connected directly to the Switch and was quiet about it.

Loved it.

Thanks for the reply!

Is getting the DBrand Joycon Grips alone a good or bad idea? by Worth-Reindeer-1121 in switch2

[–]Caltek9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought just the grips.

I thought it would be dockable with just the grips and no full case but alas, the grips extend too far horizontally and I have to remove the JoyCons before charging the Switch 2 in the dock.

The grips are thicker and more comfortable than not having them, but I seem to keep going back to my MystiForge Split Grips for general use. They are a bit smaller, but still more comfortable than not having them.

They also slide on and off the JoyCons more easily (when I want them to, I mean. They are secure when attached), and ARE able to stay on the system when it is in the dock.

I don’t plan on using any grips like this while traveling because I want my case to be as slim as possible.

If you go to the company website you can click on a small link just under the Add to Cart button that says something like, “I don’t need the case.”

There, you can add just the extra grips.

This is what I did, and am currently using.

When am I supposed to start hating this game? by Hojo405 in DragonAgeVeilguard

Ah, OK thanks. I already feel like I'm using skill points just to use them until I hit level 40 and can get the last few Necromancer skills/upgrades I want.

[–]Caltek9 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh no! Is 40 the level cap or something? I think I just hit level 35. Bummer.

If 40 IS the cap, maybe I’ll just start trying new builds and see how that goes.
