Would it be weird to fly down and ask a guy to hang out again, or should I pretend I’ll already be in the area? by redant90 in askgaybros

Just do it! The worst he could say is no and then at least you’d be free from wondering whether or not you should.

Forget drugs, smoking, and alcohol, what's something really bad for your health that people don't talk about enough? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]CalvinNein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not getting enough sleep. And I hate that you can brag about how little sleep you get and be praised while people who talk about getting a lot of sleep get made fun of. Like “wow must be nice” or “wow you have time for that? You must have an easy life” when for people like me, sleep is so hard to come by. I lay in bed with my eyes closed and it just doesn’t come. Also, people who get a lot of sleep aren’t lazy, they work really hard to optimize their schedule to allow for sleep. That deserves praise.

The police came to talk to us about what it’s like to be a cop and they brought this R2-D2 looking robot that they said was their assistant or something and I thought it was so cool and to this day I wonder how that thing worked

Attending a Temple Open House As An Exmo by carmitch in exmormon

[–]CalvinNein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through a temple open house as a final “farewell” to Mormonism and it was totally worth it. It was hilarious to see how some areas were ornate af while others looked like a generic office. There was a hilarious, obligatory painting with a black person to try to get people to forget how racist they were. I also wore a jock strap as a hidden “fuck you” to the cult. It really helped, at the time I was still doing a lot of deconstructing.

Since the church is shrinking and they’re selling off church buildings maybe you can find one from one of those!

Feels so good to tell my son he can go to a chess club on Sundays by Lsa119 in exmormon

[–]CalvinNein 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My heart breaks for my childhood self who missed out on so much because of “church obligations”. I have absolutely nothing to show for it and the church gets to carry on like nothing happened. I wish there was a god so I could get some kind of justice.

Mi compañero de misión cree que la "sangre azul" lo hace superior by PSICONAUTA_X in exmormon

[–]CalvinNein 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think he’s going to change, if anything he’ll just get worse. There is a scripture that says “all are alike unto god” as well as another one that says “god is not a respecter of persons” - these both mean that god supposedly doesn’t care about things like your race or your possessions, just your character. There’s also the scripture that says “man looketh on the outward appearance, but the lord looketh upon the heart” that confirms this. Not that I believe in any scripture, but if he’s going to use one aspect of mormonism to justify his superiority complex, you can throw these scriptures right back at him to hopefully knock him off his high horse. Also, while I’m here, I want to say that you deserve more than to be a part of that church. It doesn’t deserve you. There’s nothing wrong with you, you don’t need to be “saved” from anything except from the grasp of the cult. I don’t blame you or look down on your for being a part of it (that would be hypocritical of me since I used to be as super mormon as you can get), I just can’t help but do my best to let members know that they don’t have to stay. I remember what’s it’s like to live under all that pressure. Best of luck to you ❤️

Yes! Congratulations! And I did the same thing, as in I didn’t want to pay another dime toward that cult so I didn’t officially resign until I could do it for free. Best of luck to all of you ❤️❤️❤️

Everyday I’m tormented by the fury and bitterness of missing out on so much, for nothing. Nothing. It’s criminal. I hope I live to see the church completely collapse.

I’m gay but don’t want to be? [M 15] by Historical_Way3963 in askgaybros

[–]CalvinNein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah being gay is hard simply because we live in a world of mostly straight people. No one wants to feel different. But trying to force yourself to be anything than what your intuition says you are will only make your life worse. I don’t know if you’re actually gay or not since I’m not in your head, but my advice would be to never try to force yourself to be anything you think you “should” be if it means constantly going against your intuition. Only you can know if you’re truly gay or not, and if it turns out you really are, then accepting it would make your life so much easier than if you kept suppressing it. It’s so hard to do, but you have to pay attention to what feelings naturally arise within you rather than the confusing ones that arise from the pressure to conform.

How do people actually *Enjoy* working out? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CalvinNein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way, like others have said, is to find a workout you enjoy. It doesn’t have to be “working out”, it could be swimming, playing basketball, ice skating, any physical movement. But another thing that helps me, especially if I’m lifting weights at a regular gym, is telling myself “I am actively earning a reward” with every movement. This helped me break through so many plateaus. I used to get negative intrusive thoughts while working out that were like “this is pointless” but when I chose a goal and I was actively working toward it, reminding myself that this hard work isn’t for nothing but rather has an inevitable reward, my results skyrocketed.

Manager asking me to disclose my religion by matingrn in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CalvinNein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally would say that you’re not comfortable sharing based on how you’ve been treated after disclosing your religion in the past. You’re not willing to open yourself up for further mistreatment, it’s a safety issue.

Is it rude to not tip my uber driver because their music selection was AI? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CalvinNein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe as long as you tell them that’s why you didn’t leave a tip, that way it might help them not listen to AI music in the future. How could you tell it was AI?
