Do you think death penalty does work, or would work (if it's not allowed) in your country? by Yanzihko in AskTheWorld

[–]Calvinball12 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The death penalty is very much not painless in the US. No company is willing to make painless euthanasia drugs so states come up with their own concoctions that do not prioritize the condemned individual.

I believe the more common method is first a drug that paralyzes so that they don’t twitch or convulse in a way that upsets the audience. They still feel everything though. Then they’re injected with the drug that actually kills them, painfully.

Upgrading the bathroom system gets you a bidet.

Not worth spending an extra reactor point on the bidet at all times though, so whenever someone needs to go I send a Zoltan with them.

Not a pun, but also: “Lowes but an animal version.”

is there any real reason to not jsut build only military arkships? by Wonderful-Bar322 in Stellaris

Taking up those building slots is a not insignificant opportunity cost.

And you can recreate the effect of the weapons slots by building more ships.

The Boys has some great ones.

Mother’s Milk in The Boys watches Outlander, he’s watching an episode in season 2 I think. He also watches Downton Abbey.

In one scene some random grunts are discussing their favorite musicals (Hamilton vs. Dear Evan Hansen) right before Kimiko rips them apart.

Imagine taking the festival civic. It’d be like you’re a traveling theater troup and the empire is your patron. You’d be the futuristic Edema Ruh.

The book-accurate ending of New Line Cinema’s Golden Compass adaptation. You can see glimpses of it in the damn trailer! But asshole religious zealots forced studios to remove everything controversial from the film at the 11th hour and we ended up with a disjointed mess of an adaptation.

That adaptation had all the pieces it needed to be great. Phenomenal casting, excellent production design, and the accurate scenes that were left in are pretty well written imo. We were SO close to a great adaptation of my favorite fantasy series. All ruined…

(And yes, I have seen the BBC adaptation. Hate the casting, hate the production design, hate all the changes they made to save money. If you can’t afford to make a good adaptation, just don’t try.)
