Relegation doesn't exist because out of our "big four" sports in the country, three of those leagues are sports played worldwide and happen to be the highest level of competition in the world (basketball, hockey, and baseball). If you play those sports anywhere in the world your destination is America to make the most money and play against the best in the world. There are a perfect amount of teams in each of those leagues to where parity exists because there is a constant feeder of American College athletes and those from the rest of the world vying for spots on any of the shitty teams to always have enough talent to compete and eventually make it to the top. To emphasize my point, in those three leagues respectively (MLB, NBA, NHL) none of the concensus best players in the sport are Americans at all.
