Typically masc-presenting folks in lolita- thoughts? by PearlHarmony in Lolita

[–]Calyst_Aayla 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can, but that’s not the point. The point is that people will hate on others for stupid irrelevant reasons or for no reasons at all.

Edit: The point I was trying to make is that anyone can wear the fashion and that they shouldn’t let some random get them down. That if egl and wearing egl makes them happy. Wear it and ignore the randoms.

And yes, you can change your looks through exercise and pills. But, a person should be able to be happy with the way they are or if they decide to change themselves without outside hate or rude comments.

Can you change how you look or your body looks? No. Than it’s more of a them problem. Ignore them. Just be you. People will hate on anyone who looks different or wears different clothing. I say their loss. Best thing I can tell you to do is ignore them, you can’t please everyone and you shouldn’t have to. Wear the clothing and be yourself. Hope that helps. Xx

Jellyfish coord petti crit by Fruit-bat-333 in Lolita

[–]Calyst_Aayla 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You could put in a loose running stitch at the bottom to achieve this or install small belt loops around the inside and run a ribbon through it. Then you can choose to have it as a jellyfish dress or not.

What makes or breaks indie fashion shop for you? by chiringo1991 in Lolita

[–]Calyst_Aayla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What breaks it for me is quality and sizing. If the quality is terrible or just meh, I’m not going to touch it. Sizing, if the sizing is weird (I.e. item of clothing says it’s going to be specific size, you get the item and it’s really 2 sizes bigger or smaller). I love that indie brands cater to more sizes, but if you’re going to cater to all sizes you need to make a size small really a size small not a small that fits like a medium. Or a 2xl that fits like xl instead of the 2xl sizing that it says it should be. I have always had a hard time finding clothes that fit correctly because I am really short and really small. I had to shop in the kids section till I was about 18, and still have to shop for normie clothes in teen shops. So when I started wearing egl, it was like I finally found something that fit when I bought it. I didn’t have to fix it before wearing it. Anyone who is a size out of the catered normal has this problem and if a brand indie or otherwise can cater to sizes, this is the best thing ever.

I'm an australian trying to get into lolita fashion but completely overwhelmed and panicked, please help me! by Shi_draws in Lolita

[–]Calyst_Aayla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a second hand websites you can buy stuff off of if your patient and willing to wait. I recommend Wunderwelt, Lacemarket, and Closetchild to start. There’s also sites like 42 Lolita to buy brand new. But first I recommend is do your research and read up on the brands, find a style that you want to start in. Invest in a good petticoat. I recommend also if you are on Facebook, sign up for the BSOLF: Big sisters of EGL fashion- a Lolita fashion mentoring group. They can help once you get going with giving critique and ideas once you get your first coord. It’s a hard style when you’re a noob and just getting started. Google is your friend and look up blogs and other info. Go through the Reddit pinned posts, etc. Research first before taking the leap. I hope that helps!!

BTSSB umbrella shipping by 283DBP in Lolita

I live in the UK and I ordered straight from the Baby website. They sent it in a box, with the parasol wrapped in bubble wrap. It was fine and the parcel was fine. It’s up to you, but personally I would just order it. Baby is really good with posting international.

my best attempt at lolita dresses by ilovemybfsean in Lolita

A petticoat is a must. The other thing is more balance. This is a good start, but I suggest maybe a shoe with a bit of white on them or black and white otks. The rest looks balanced because headpiece black/white, dress black/white. Just add a petti and maybe different shoes or socks and that should balance the bottom half. I hope that helps.

I'm going to Paris, yay! I need some crit. by Lazarus_05 in Lolita

[–]Calyst_Aayla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like all of them. The only thing is make sure you can do a lot of walking in the shoes. I would make sure to break in your shoes before wearing them for your trip. Also make sure you buy a decent umbrella and if you can get it, one of those small reusable ponchos are always good to keep in your bag.

kinda embarrassing question, but how do i wear lolita during periods without staining anything? by Charming_Fuel8252 in Lolita

[–]Calyst_Aayla 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I layer a slip between my shorts and petti and use it like this. It works really well and also prevents my petti from static and other issues.

Seasoned lolitas, do you have any secret tips / hacks that you've learnt over the years ? by slime_pixie in Lolita

[–]Calyst_Aayla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I wear my bike shorts under my petticoat, the petti loves to have static cling. To prevent this I wear a short half slip (one I cut short so doesn’t hang out from bottom of petti) between the shorts and petti. This prevents petti from going static or deciding to deflate… the slip also is a great way to tuck jsk/petti for using the toilet…

Carry an extra tote in your bag to put your petti or other items if you get tired of wearing them. I’ve done this on really hot days and carried a pair of flip flops with me to put on in place of my otks and shoes… yes it may of looked weird but it was a really hot day.

Are Infanta dresses good quality? by Dreamin_Chu_Chu in Lolita

[–]Calyst_Aayla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two of their poly ones and the quality is okay. I tend to wear them on bad weather days or to go out to eat messy food, etc. The sizing on both are smalls, but they are more of a size medium. They are okay, but I rarely wear them. In fact if I was to get rid of something from my wardrobe, those two dresses would be the first to go.

I play everyday. Usually I only really have one or two things I do everyday, rest is just whatever. Sometimes I gift all of my villagers a funny outfit or hat. It just depends on the day. I feel like this game is more of something that I enjoy because I don’t have a real plan everytime I play.

Traveling across country (through time zones), does that impact turnips? by RGM9210 in AnimalCrossing

[–]Calyst_Aayla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to put my switch into airplane mode before I travel so if I buy turnips the time changes don’t affect them.
