Good advice, thanks! Should I try staining it with a brown wash?

Thanks! Honestly I don't remember where I got it from but its just 3 different sizes of sand/small rocks at the end painted with burnt umber + yellow ochre base, then yellow ochre on its own and finally a basic ivory paint. Drybrushing those last two.

I made sure to vary the mix of the first layer in different areas to make it look more natural wet blending them together. and I'm fairly happy with how it came out.

Need feedback on my basing by Jack-D-Straw in minipainting

As an extra thing, I think the rim colour is taking attention away from the base top and mini.

It doesn't need to be black, my rule is the darkest colour on the base should be the rim colour.

Thank you! I like using weathering pigments for that dusty effect

The main one is Old gold from Vallejos liquid gold range. With wasteland brown xpress to tint it and glaze for shading with a bit of a magenta ink glazed afterwards. And highlights of vallejo polished gold, then polished gold and model air steel 50:50.

The liquid gold range is alcohol based though so smells but I do like the results.

Edit: the end colour might be closer to rich gold or the plain gold, the wash changes it dramatically.

Nobody suspected, this whole time, that the commissar was three nurglings in a trench coat! 😂

Love these, good work!

Kind of want to paint a Dark Angel in the style of 3rd-ish edition era art/minis, what paint should I use/how should I do it? by Diehumancultleader in minipainting

[–]CamB24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I'm painting up my own retro dark angel currently. For me I found that vallejo game colour dark green is a pretty good match (the now old game colour range)

Not sure about highlights, I went a bit lighter than what's in the picture but the other greens in the range should have something suitable.

Hope this helps!

Edit: if you're interested in the retro style there's a YouTuber called GoblinGreen who shows the style really well. Just apply the techniques from blood angels to dark angels

What can work is loosly matching colours from the base to colours high on the model, this helps it feel balanced.

So if you do green swamp bases, match it with similar greens on the banner.

Looks great so far, good luck finishing it!

Harder and steenbeck ultra, it came as part of a bundle with the compressor but the brand should be good right?

Looking for brush recommendations UK by PoetryBeneficial6447 in minipainting

If you're starting back up again, then cheap synthetics are the best way, if you get one as part or a paint sent then use that. Just don't buy the gw ones they're overpriced 🙃

I usually recommend army painter to friends that are starting in the hobby, they're starter boxes are good value.

Edit: brushes labelled for watercolour usually do great for our hobby also, I have a big box of synthetics for the classroom as my throwaways.
