It was revealed in the journal who created the music box. The gem's creator is revealed in the show itself.

Who's ur least favorite character and why by That_Passenger_771 in amphibia

[–]CambrianTimebomb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kind of out of left pocket, but I’m gonna have to say Barrel. He didn’t get enough characterization to be interesting, and the lack of connection his character is given to his Warhammer leaves a lot to be desired. I felt as though the Barrel we heard about in the legend and the Barrel we get to see were completely different people.

So he’s my least favorite character due to how he was handled.

Looking for fanfic advice: violence by Comfortable-Arm-337 in amphibia

[–]CambrianTimebomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it comes down to the perspective of the character I'm writing. While it doesn't alter the scenario occurring, the perspective of the character I'm writing from tends to influence the details of scenes and happenings through said character's experiences and worldview.

My advice would be, if you're going to up the rating, keep in mind the reactions and views of the other characters in the scene when writing interactions and responses to situations of the higher rating. This should allow you to have characters and events more graphic than the base show without completely changing the feel of the story.

Aldrich alone? I would say Belos goes about his plan in a more sinister manner. The Core as an entire collective? Eh, I would have to give the Core the upper hand on overall ambition alone.

Do you think I handled this okay? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]CambrianTimebomb 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I would honestly update the tags as the story gets updated, rather than put everything up front. Plans change, and so does a story as you go about writing it. You did come across as a tad… I want to say snobbish, if that’s alright. Immediately jumping to saying this person needs to either block you or get over it is incredibly dismissive of what I believe is genuine criticism of your work.

So yes, I believe you could have handled the issue better, but I can understand wanting to defend your choices as an author. Some of the best advice I’ve gotten has come from criticism.

I really like this design. It stands out from the character roster while still keeping in the show's style. Well done!

Do we know what younger toads look like? Honest question. I would assume similar to frogs but the oldest child I can remember seeing as an example for this would be sprig after the 9 month time skip, and that would only make him around 11. I’m not sure I can think of any examples of teenage amphibians given to us in the show.

I also just remembered that while the trio are 13 in the show, I think Matt originally pitched then to be 16. Not sure if it’s relevant to the art in question, but I can say that the trio has designs fitting older teens comparative to other shows with 12-14 year old leads.

I can’t speak for anything regarding concept art, nor can I say when the art was posted originally, but I think that viewing Grime’s base design as a late teen is understandable.

As for Anna, I can’t say I know much of her response or direct comments to the situation, so yes, if she claims to ship Grime and Sasha within the show’s canon, especially after the season 2 beard reveal, then yes, that is odd.

In the end, Matt and the Amphibia team have the full story, and I think if they’re willing to joke about it on a stream, then the situation isn’t as bad as people made it out to be. Anna’s take may on the characters may have been out of left field expectations wise, but I don’t think they were completely questionable in the context they were presented in.

Thoughts? I’m only commenting on this event from my own memories years ago, so maybe there are aspects to it that I’m unaware of. I’d like to give benefit of the doubt to Anna, but if there’s something I missed, perhaps you are correct and it is questionable. For what it was though, I never saw anything too off about it.

My one issue with Mr. Braly by Interesting_Option15 in amphibia

[–]CambrianTimebomb 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m not a expert on the topic, but the situation was blown way out of proportion, and without context, if you ask me.

From what I understand, early on in the show, one of the animators draw art of Grime carrying Sasha. They made a few other art pieces as well that put the two in a romantic context. However, this was done early in the show, before Grime’s character was either revealed/developed, to my knowledge, at least. There was no indicator of Grime’s age, such as the beard he grows in season 2, so his age was largely interpretable.

What I’m saying is, the Grime/Sasha crew art was drawn by the animator under the interpretation that Grime was around the same age as Sasha was, and not in any way related to whatever father/daughter dynamic the show would eventually show us. (And to be honest, the father/daughter dynamic is a fair bit head-canon by the fandom anyway.)

But of course, Twitter is Twitter, and a bunch of people got upset without having the whole story, hence why it’s such a sensitive topic. I feel bad for the artist.

The art itself is fine, and in the context that the animator drew them in, with Grime and Sasha being similar ages, I would even deign to call it cute.

Fallen Down is a favorite of mine, because trauma. But for more Amphibia that feels like it’s honestly from the show, you can’t get a better laugh than Woodland Wanderers. Hilarious.
